Continual Follow Up
Our commitment to you does not stop once the services are complete. We continue following up with families by sending grief information shortly after the service as well as in anticipation of the one year anniversary of a death, normally a very emotional time for survivors. We host a holiday grief support event in December as well as sending “Holiday Help” books to assist families get through their first Thanksgiving and Christmas following a loss.
Community Service
We are also committed to being a force for good within our community. Our staff spends hundreds of hours of personal time and tens of thousands of dollars yearly helping local non-profit groups serve people. Hansen-Spear has an annual car wash to raise money for the Blessing Breast Center. We sponsor at least one performance a season with the Quincy Community Theatre. We provide countless monetary donations or Chicago Cubs baseball tickets or memorabilia to a wide variety of charity auctions benefitting youth groups, sports, arts, educational or health related endeavors. Our values, instilled by our founders long ago, demand that we all give back to this community in whatever way we can.
Grief Education
We also stand at the forefront of grief education, sponsoring specialized speakers for the Quincy Teachers’ Conference and the Chamber of Commerce, as well as making presentations to nursing students and active health care professionals. Our online grief resources are the most extensive and updated collection available, and are accessible 24 hours a day.
We Are Green
Hansen-Spear has always prided itself with green recycling practices and composting. In addition, we have planted over 4500 trees through the Lofty Oaks Association in memory of loved ones lost, and have had numerous trees added to our property and on Maine Street to “Rebuild The Canopy.” This year was our initial Earth Day celebration where we gave away tree seedlings and showcased local food coops. We recently expanded into offering Green Funerals, and are a partner provider with aGreenerFuneral.org.
