Will Spear

Partner/Funeral Director – william@hansenspear.com

Following family tradition, Will joined the corporation in 2007 after completing his degree at Worsham College of Mortuary Science. He graduated from Quincy Senior High School in 1999 and was a 2003 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University. In May of 2012 Will married Dr. Kristin Lynne Kanoy at St. John’s Anglican Parish in Quincy.

Will is a member of St. John’s Anglican Parish where he has served on the vestry and as the treasurer. He continued the family tradition by being the third Spear to be a past chairman of the QHS Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament Committee (2009 and 2010), is a member of Gem City “Breakfast” Kiwanis and a supporter, volunteer and former board member at Horizons Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry.

Will supports military charities and in 2010 organized the Military Care Package collection drive and coordinated the creation of the Tri-State Troop Support military care package collection in 2011. He serves on the Salvation Army Family Store Committee and formerly served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. In 2018, Will, Kristin, Jeff and Theresa served as the Chairs of the Salvation Army Christmas Campaign for the 125th Anniversary of the Salvation Army in Quincy.

Instilled in Will across the generations of his family is a commitment to community service. He desires to inspire others to be involved in supporting community charities, so he created the Hansen-Spear GIVE BACK program that was featured on the Hansen-Spear website and Facebook Page for many years. The program started as community charity contest to spotlight and promote local charities on the Hansen-Spear Facebook Page and Blog.

Will enjoys listening to music, reading and cooking. You can find his recipes on the Hansen-Spear Blog under the Spear Family Cooking posts. He is a Chicago Sports fan and cheers on the Chicago Cubs, Bulls, Blackhawks and Bears.

Brian Durante

Partner/Funeral Director – brian@hansenspear.com

Originally from New York and Chicago, Brian C. Durante joined Hansen-Spear family, after
having worked as a funeral director and embalmer in the Chicago area for 10 years. He received his Bachelor degree from Northern Illinois University, and he graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science, where he won the American Institute of Embalmer’s Award.

Brian is a member of the Church of St. Peter, where his three children attended school. Brian currently serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Parochial Music Organization. Brian is involved in the United Way of Adams County as a loaned executive and a board member. In his spare time, Brian enjoys mixing and producing electronic music, distance running, and lifting weights.

Jeff Spear

Since graduating as the valedictorian of his class from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois in 1979, Jeff Spear, the son of George and Charlotte Hansen Spear, has provided integral leadership of the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Growing up in Quincy, Jeff attended Quincy High School and then Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio graduating Magna Cum Laude. During high school he was a member of the QHS Blue Devil Basketball Team and co-founder of the “Athletic Supporters” pep group and while in college became a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

Jeff is a former member of Luther Memorial Church serving on its governing board, and with Theresa giving children’s sermons for more than 20 years in church. He became a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church and is active in many community endeavors with leadership positions with the United Way , Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Mart Heinen Club, QU Board of Trustees, State Street Bank Board, Herman Lodge #39 A. F. & A. M., Quincy Jaycees. He was elected to the QHS Sports Hall of Fame in 1998, and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2000.

Theresa Spear

Theresa Powers Spear is a native of Quincy, Illinois, attending Notre Dame High School. She earned an associate’s degree in biology from John Wood Community College in 1978 and was a 1979 graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science. She married Jeff Spear in Quincy, in June of 1978. A passion for art led her to complete a Bachelor’s of Fine Art degree in studio art from Quincy University in 1996.

She was a member of Quincy Junior Women’s Club, Quincy Women of Today/Jacyettes, and the St. Mary Hosptial Guild, and is a member of Quincy Service League, Quincy Women of Today/ Jacyettes, St. Mary Hospital Guild, the Great River Watercolor Society, QSFA board and the Quincy Art Center where she served as president from 1995-1997 and taught printmaking classes. When they aren’t working, she and Jeff enjoy travel. Theresa also relishes quiet time at home where she puts her creativity to work creating meals for friends and family as well as artwork. She shows her art work at the Granite Bank Gallery in Quincy.

With Jeff, Theresa is a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church, and a former member of Luther Memorial Church, its church council, and was chairman of the Children’s Christmas Program from 1987-1992. For more than 20 years she and Jeff have given children sermons at Luther Memorial Church and recently at Hope Lutheran Church.

Jeff and Theresa Powers Spear have two sons – William (Will) joined the business in 2007. Nicholas who is a captain and pilot in the United States Air Force currently stationed near Sacramento, California, at Beale Air Force Base. Nicholas has served his country with tours of duty in Iraq and Kuwait.

Marcus Roegge

Marcus graduated from Rushville/Industry High School and received his Mortuary Science degree from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois in 2013.  He then moved to Quincy to serve his internship at Hansen-Spear Spear Home.  He has been a valuable member of the Hansen-Spear family since then and is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in Illinois. Marcus and his wife Emily live in Quincy.  He is a member of the Quincy Disc Golf Club and Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church.

Jon Wintheiser

Jon was originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He relocated to Quincy from the Galesburg area to join Hansen-Spear in 2004. Jon graduated with honors from Carl Sandburg College in 2004 earning his Associates of Applied Science Mortuary Science degree. During his time at Carl Sandburg, Jon received the Illinois Funeral Directors and the Gibson Memorial Scholarships. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Sigma fraternity and the Phi Thea Kappa Society. After nine years of faithful service, Jon left Hansen-Spear in 2013 to pursue a career outside of the funeral industry before returning to the Hansen-Spear family in April 2018.
