Our Commitment to Serve During Coronavirus

Given the current outbreak of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and the impact the virus is having on our community, employees and families, we wanted to share our commitment to serve.

Despite these uncertain times, we expect to continue to deliver the same level of excellence to families in our community. The health, wellbeing, and safety of our employees and the families we serve are of paramount concern.

We’ve always taken great pride in our clean, welcoming facilities and especially now know its importance. Like many others, we’re taking guidance from the CDC. We’ve increased our daily cleaning, understanding that regular cleaning is one of the most important preventive measures we can take.

Current Guidance on Funerals / Limited Gatherings – Updated on March 20, 2020

Our staff is keeping up to date on guidance from the Federal, State and Local agencies.  The current guidelines from the CDC require that we limit gatherings to 10 people.

Funerals: currently funerals are required to be Private/Family events (with restricted gathering guidelines in place).
Visitations: currently visitations are not being held because of the limited gathering guidelines being enforced.

What Options Can Hansen-Spear Provide?

Funerals: At Hansen-Spear, we have the ability to LIVE STREAM the private service so that anyone may watch the service from the safety and comfort of their home.  A link will be provided on the obituary on our website to allow for access and viewing of the service.  We will not be charging additional for this during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Visitation: while having a visitation is not currently feasible, we are working with families to schedule a public visitation down the road – when we are clear of the restrictions currently in place.  This will also be done with no additional visitation or service charges at that later date.

Family Viewings: We understand the importance of seeing your loved as you begin your journey through grief.  We are working to accommodate families to have private viewings and in the case of larger families, we will stagger the times so that we can stay within the guidelines requires by the government but still allow all family members that time with their loved one.

Online Condolences

Many people already make use of the Tribute Tab on an obituary to leave a heartfelt message of condolence to families who are grieving.  This is an even more important now while visitation are suspended and services are private.  Our website allows you to post a public message or send a message privately to the family.  Please make use of this resource to reach out and be present in this way for families that are facing the loss of a loved one during this time of social distancing and limited gatherings.

Sending Flowers…

Flowers may still be sent to private services.  Here is a link to the flower store on our website where you can view floral items and place an order online.  All orders through this website are fulfilled by three local (Quincy) florists.

Making a Memorial Donation…

You may still make memorial donations by writing a check (payable to the charity) and mailing it to us at Hansen-Spear with the information on who it is from.
