Steven Eugene Churchwell, 68, of McAlester, Okla. died Thursday, March 9, 2023, in Tulsa.

Steve Churchwell was born March 18, 1954 in Quincy, Ill. to Richard Eugene Churchwell and Lucille Ann (Klote) Churchwell. After graduating from Quincy Senior High School, he worked at Gardner Denver where he completed an apprenticeship to become a journeyman toolmaker.
Steve married Christine Ellen Hermann June 24, 1978. In 1983 he began his civil service career at the Savanna Army Depot in Savanna, IL and served many years as a machinist leader. In 1999 he transferred to the Defense Ammunition Center at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant where he retired in 2016. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in 2007.

Steve provided technical support for family, friends and coworkers. He enjoyed scuba diving, riding his Triumph motorcycle, and amateur radio. He was life-long lover of all dogs. He held many titles throughout his life but none as special to him as the title Papa to his granddaughters.
Steve is survived by his wife, Christine; his children, Brian Churchwell, Lynn Trainor and husband Christopher, and Jessica Banks and husband Jordan; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Harper, and Abigail Banks; his mother, Lucille; siblings, Patricia Donald and husband Stan, James Churchwell and wife Lee Kindermann, and William Churchwell and wife Margo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother Edward Churchwell, and his beloved dog Patch.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, at 10:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester.

Graveside services will be at Calvary Cemetery in Quincy, Illinois on Saturday, March 18, at 10:00 a.m.
