Maurice Arliss Crider, age 90, of Quincy Illinois, passed away on September 10, 2022, at St. Vincent Home.

Maurice was born October 7, 1931 a son of Oscar W. Crider and Lovie Marie Mack Crider.

He married Onella Mae Dade Pleasant on March 15, 1951 in Quincy. From this union they had four children. Maurice was a member of Bethel AME Church. She survives.

He attended Quincy High School and graduated in the year of 1950. He went on to continue his studies at Western Illinois University. Maurice worked at Electric Wheel for thirty years and retired in 1983.

While Maurice was employed, he was elected as president of the UAW for thirteen years. Maurice also traveled with UAW all over the United States. He also worked for the State of Illinois as a representative for equal jobs for minorities. Later he received the position as UAW Chairman of a small part of Peoria, IL. He was a part NAACP of Quincy Illinois chapter for six years and helped organize and inform minorities of their equal rights and job opportunities. Maurice served his community by helping people to gain employment and to exercise their right to vote. During election time, Maurice would volunteer to take people to polls as he worked at the election hall. Maurice and Onella had the wonderful opportunity to meet Barack Obama.

One of the most memorable moments Maurice experienced in his lifetime was when he attended the march with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Washington D.C in 1963.

Maurice's hobbies were hunting, baseball, trapshooting, fishing, and bowling.

In Maurice's ninety years of life he cherished the time with all his family, including his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Maurice is also survived by his children: Maurice (girlfriend, Vanessa) Crider Jr, of Rock Island, IL; son-in-law, Randy Matthews of Quincy IL; Carina (Terry) Cartmill of Burlington, IA; and Tracy (Marvin) Blue of Frisco, TX; and his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Maurice Crider was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Jani Mayfield and Judith Marie Matthews; and seven brothers and sisters: Bill Crider, Colonel Crider, Warren Crider, Lovie Young, Tina Johnson, Betty Cartmill, and Joanna Crider.

Visitation: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Services: 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Carl Terry and Rev. James Hailey officiating.

The Crider family requests that guests wear masks to the visitation and service.
