David A. Sowell, age 74, of Lake of the Oaks, Canton, Missouri, died on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 12:57 a.m. in Blessing Hospital.

David was born August 14, 1948 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Emmett and Erma Wear Sowell. He married Doris Barber on March 23, 1979 in Quincy, Illinois.

He served his country in the Vietnam War from 1968 until 1970. He was part of the United States Army Special Operations, where he received two Bronze Stars. He was stationed to lay listening devices on the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

David was a Master Electrician at Midwest Carbide Corporation in Keokuk, IA, where he served as a Union President. He was also the president on the Association at Lake of the Oaks. He set up programs and BBQ's for the neighborhood.

David loved to fish, especially Trout. He was a great handyman always working his hands on something. He loved spending time in the outdoors. David was a wonderful Husband, and a proud Father to his children.

In addition to his wife, Doris, David is survived by: five children, Daniel (Cheryl) Sowell of Quincy, Cindy Ussery of UT, Scott Hogan of Canton, MO, Kelly Hogan of Quincy, and Crystal Sowell of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren, Dylan Sowell, Collin and Caleb (Hayley) Altgilbers, Alaina Ussery, and Darion Hogan; two great grandchildren, Luci and Jensen Altgilbers; two sisters, Mary Austin, of Quincy, and Auga Glore, of LA.

David was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Michael David Sowell, and a granddaughter, Jillian "JJ" Hogan.

There will be a Celebration of Life for David held at a later date with the family.
