Rev. Dean Bauch

Rev. Ardeen (Dean) Bauch, 97, formerly of Quincy and more recently of Rochester, MN passed from this earthly life on August 15, 2022. Dean was born November 3, 1924 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Charles Henry and Gertrude (Meyer) Bauch. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty J. Niere, on April 27, 1946 at St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed church in Quincy. They shared 72 beautiful years of marriage together.
Dean was a 1942 graduate of Quincy Senior High School and served in the United States Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946. While stationed in the South Pacific theatre, he received several medals and attained the rank of Radioman 1st Class. Dean graduated from Westminster College in 1949 and Eden Theological Seminary in 1952, and was ordained as a minister that same year. He served as an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ for more than 60 years.
During his pastoral career, especially at St. Paul UCC in Keokuk, Iowa where he served for 24 years, Dean was involved with many organizations including the advisory council of the SE Association of the Iowa Conference, and was active as the Iowa Conference moderator, several terms as a youth camp director, and was elected four times as a delegate to the General Synod of the United Church of Christ.
He was also active with the Lions Club and the Crop Hike for Hunger program, and served on the Board of Directors for Head Start, Salvation Army, United Way, Red Cross, and the American Field Service Committee among others. Dean was always a great sports fan, and avidly supported the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and golf and coaching Little League baseball. He also enjoyed singing in church choirs and the YMCA Glee Club. Following retirement, Dean and Betty moved back to their hometown Quincy.
Survivors include four children: Christopher (Debra) Bauch of Rochester, MN; Bruce (Gayle) Bauch of Clarkson, KY; Laurel (Allen) Giebink of Rolla, MO; and Paul (Adele) Bauch of Apple Valley, MN; seven grandchildren: Nicholas (Brenda) Bauch of Minneapolis, MN; Julie (Michael Murphy) Bauch of Minneapolis, MN; Jacquelyn (Shane Petschonek) Bauch of House Springs, MO; Adam (Patty) Giebink of Washington, MO; Brian (Erin) Giebink of Golden Valley, MN; Alexandra (Brad) Cullen of Minneapolis, MN; Leah (Michael) Meer of Seattle, Washington; eight great grandchildren; niece, Carol (Odie) Bunch of Quincy; and nephew Dean (Debbie) Moentman of FL.
Dean was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty; parents Charles and Gertrude; infant daughter Dorothy; infant son Thomas; sister-in-law Dorothy Moentman; and brother-in-law Andrew Moentman.
Visitation: 10:00 - 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Trinity United Church of Christ, Quincy, IL.
Service of Celebration: 11:00 am Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Trinity United Church of Christ, Quincy, IL. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #37 and the United States Navy Funeral Honors Team.
