Obituary
Helen Marie Pfirman, age 95, of Quincy, died Monday, December 6, 2021 at 1:36 p.m. in Phoenix, Arizona.
She was born November 27, 1926 in Blackwell, Wisconsin the daughter of John J. and Agnes Krueger Matelski. On August 7, 1948 she married Lewis W. Pfirman in St. John's Lutheran Church in Hannibal, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2013.
Mrs. Pfirman was a graduate of Wabeno, Wisconsin High School and received her R.N. degree from St. Mary School of Nursing. At that time she was in the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. She also did Premature Nursing with Advanced Training at Michael Rees Hospital in Chicago. Mrs. Pfirman was an office nurse for Dr. J. Feldman at Quincy Clinic; an office nurse for Dr. Milton Bitter and was a Recovery Room Nurse at St. Mary Hospital. She retired after 32 years. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and had been active in the Parents Teachers League. She was a former member of St. James L.W.M.L. and Altar Guild. She was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps from 1944 to 1947 and was a member of St. Mary Nurses Alumnae. She was a member of the Blessing Hospital Women's Board and volunteered at the Blessing Tea Room and with the American Red Cross. She was a member of Sheridan Swim Club and enjoyed traveling and dancing.
Survivors include a son, Gary L. Pfirman and his wife Karen of Phoenix, AZ, 2 granddaughters Melissa J. Pfirman of Phoenix, AZ and Jeannine N. Pfirman of Orlando, FL; a sister, Loretta Millette of Goodman, WI; a brother, John Matelski of Goodman, WI; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers Leslie, Larry and Raymond Matelski.
Memorial Service: Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Marlin Rempfer officiating.
Visitation: Thursday, February 17, 2022 10:00 - 11:00 am at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Inurnment will take place at Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran School.
