William H. "Bill" Sederwall, Jr., age 76, of , Quincy, died Saturday, January 1, 2022, at 12:54 pm in Blessing Hospital.
Bill was born December 30, 1945 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of William H. Sr. and Honore Marie Myers Sederwall. He married Patricia Gumm on March 30, 2007.
Bill was a 1963 graduate of Quincy High School, and he also attended Southwestern Oklahoma State College in Altus, OK. Bill proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as part of the Strategic Air Command. While stationed in Oklahoma, he participated in many Hootenannies and wrote an award winning comedy routine, which he and a friend performed in the Air Force Talent Contest. Bill also taught tennis at the base teen center and participated on the base basketball and fast pitch softball teams.
Bill loved sports of all kinds, particularly his Chicago Bears and San Francisco Giants. He especially enjoyed following his daughters and his grandchildren to their sports endeavors. He was also proud to have been able to coach the Gardner Denver women's fast pitch team and the Quincy Junior Jets for many years. That was his passion.
Bill tried to live his life with the motto, "Be the better person". Consequently, he was blessed with many friends, many who remember him simply as "Coach".
Survivors include three daughters: Christina (Brad) Paschke of Wilmington, NC; Candess (Mark) Hamit and Carrie (Mike) Cooley, both of Topeka, KS; four grandchildren: Peyton Paschke of Wilmington, NC; and Curtis Sederwall, Shevie Cooley, and Kacey Sederwall, all of Topeka, KS; three great grandchildren: Sevon, Karter, and Kaelyn, all of Topeka, KS; two sisters: Sandra Haistings of Crane, MO; and Linda (John) Stratman of Ozark, MO; a nephew, Eric (Julie) Stratman of Quincy; and two nieces: Camela Brady of Birmingham, AL; and Julie Folk of Crane, MO.
Bill was blessed with an extended family for whom he cared very much and considered his own. Tami (Luke) Neally, Adam (Merry Freeman) Richmiller, Kristi (Jerry) Cookson, all of Quincy and Cole Reeder of South Carolina; grandchildren: Brianna (Brigham Vonderhaar) Wingerter, Brianna (Spencer) Havermale, Hunter Yohn, Devin and Carson Neally, Calvin (Erika) Cookson, Chance and Kaylie Richmiller, Taylor Freeman, and Kobi (Jake) Cookson; great grandchildren: Bryson and Monroe Roberts, Bryson Vonderhaar, and Josie Havermale, all of Quincy.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 10:00 am Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Chaplain Josh Vahle officiating.
Burial: Akers Chapel Cemetery, Plainville, IL with military honors provided by Payson VFW and the United States Air Force funeral honors detail.
Visitation: 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Friday January 7, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
