Dr. Sheila Laws

Dr. Sheila Kathleen Laws, age 84, of Quincy, died on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 7:26 am surrounded by her family.
Sheila was born June 4, 1936, in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Fred W. and Martha J. Dooley Menne. On June 5, 1955, she married Donald Dewane Laws at the Church of St. Peter in Quincy. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2014.
After graduating from Quincy High School in 1953, she spent two years at Quincy College. She went on to the Palmer College of Chiropractic and graduated as class valedictorian in December 1962. She was selected to Who's Who in American University Women. She traveled extensively, teaching a chiropractic technique (Receptor-Tonus), and was well respected nationally and internationally within the chiropractic profession. In recent years she presented the Receptor-Tonus technique at chiropractic colleges in Spain and Brazil. As a post-graduate faculty member of Northwestern College of Chiropractic, she lectured on numerous occasions at chiropractic colleges throughout the United States and Canada focusing on her teaching after fully retiring in 2010. She was a member of The Quincy Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Chiropractic Society, American Chiropractic Association, and the Parker Chiropractic Research Foundation.
In addition to her very successful career, Sheila was beloved by her family and created wonderful traditions especially around Christmas and Easter. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, regaling all who would listen with her wonderful stories and jokes, and loved good food. She left an indelible impact personally and professionally in the world and she will be missed!
Survivors include three children, Dr. Suzanne (Jon) Feldman of Spanish Fork, Utah, Julie (Rick) Bruening of Quincy and Joseph (Larry Sawallish) Laws of Quincy; a son-in-law, Todd Franklin of Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Dr. Brandon (Molly) Bruening, Tristin (Chad) Neumann, Christopher (Letha) Franklin, Jennifer (William) Phelps, Heather (Dr. Greg) Bosshardt, Andrew (Amanda) Schofield, and Daniel (Julie) Schofield; 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Dr. Diana Franklin, a brother, Donald Menne, and four sisters, Coaina Shaw, Patricia Langen, Abby Heinecke, and Jeanne Griffith.
Services: 9:30 am prayers on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church with Fr. Steven Arisman officiating.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, March 27, 2021 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with a wake service at 6:45 pm conducted by Deacon Dennis Holbrook.
