Elbert Guy Allen, age 96, of Quincy, died Thursday, March 11, 2021, at 3:03 pm in Good Samaritan Home.
Mr. Allen was born November 4, 1924 on a farm in Rocky Run Township in Hancock County, IL, a son of Harry and Clara Drake Allen. He married Mary C. Timpe on April 21, 1951. She died in Phoenix, AZ on November 18, 1963. He married Patricia J. Ingram on January 14, 1967. She died on November 29, 2006.
Mr. Allen was a graduate of Mendon Township High School and Gem City Business College. He served in the United States Army during WW II. Mr. Allen worked for White Truck Sales in Quincy, Truck Equipment Co. in Phoenix, AZ, and retired from Quincy Specialties Co., where he was co-owner.
Mr. Allen was a member of the Church of St. Peter, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. In his spare time, Mr. Allen enjoyed watching basketball, baseball, and football. He was also an avid golfer and bowler, and he was recently inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame, Quincy Chapter. Mr. Allen also loved to travel, and he and his wife had been to all 50 states.
Survivors include three sons: Lance L. (Barbara) Ingram of Quincy, IL; Kerry J. (Deborah) Ingram of Chicago Heights, IL; and Randy J. (Carla) Ingram of Greenwood, IN; six grandchildren: Kyle David Ingram of Quincy; Kara Jean (Nathan) Destro of Orland Park, IL; Gregory Schuyler Ingram of Mantino, IL; Joshua Randall (Katie) Ingram of Plainfield, IN; Tyler Allen and Ashley Marie Ingram, both of Granger, IN; two great grandchildren: Jay Daniel Ingram and Bennett Destro; a sister, Shirley Landrum of Quincy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his two wives, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roger; two sisters, Hilda Beeler and Mildred Snyder; and a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Ingram.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 am Monday, March 15, 2021 at the Church of St. Peter, with Father Pawel Luczak officiating. Please bring a mask if you plan on attending the Mass
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois with military honors provided by American Legion Post 37 and the United States Army Funeral Honors Detail.
Visitation: 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. on Monday, March 15, 2021 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Please bring a mask if you plan on attending the visitation.
