John Burtle, age 80, of Quincy, died Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Blessing Hospital.
John was born April 2, 1940 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Ralph and Bernice Swalley Burtle. He married Donna Brewis on August 20, 1962 in Springfield, Illinois. She survives.
John graduated from Lanphier High School in 1958. After his graduation, he enlisted into the United States Air Force and served until 1962. John graduated from Chicago DeVry Tech School. He worked for ATC in Bloomington until it was bought out by Gates Radio, and Donna and he moved to Quincy. John then worked at Broadcast Electronics. He worked in radio broadcasting for many years, until he worked for ETC Computerland in computer training until his retirement in 2007.
John was always computer saavy and loved learning and developing new skills in computers. He helped develop Control 16 while working at Broadcast Electronics and was the Vice President of Product Development. He loved Automation Equipment and Training. John was an avid fan of Chicago sports teams, especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and was a Fighting Illini Fan.
In addition to his wife, Donna, John is survived by his children, Ronald (Cheryl) Burtle, of St. Peters, MO, and Carrie (Dan) Wallace, of Quincy; three grandchildren, Addison and Ryan Burtle, and Landon Wallace; a brother, Charles Burtle of Bullhead City, AZ; three sisters, Virginia Caswell of Athens, IL, Judy Follis of Oblong, IL, and Jean Fluckey of Springfield, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; a son in infancy, Ralph Timothy Burtle; and two brothers, James and David Burtle.
Graveside Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2021 at Quincy Memorial Park
Inurnment: Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois with military honors conducted by the United States Air Force and the American Legion Post 37.
