Obituary

Elizabeth "Ibby" Carrott Whittemore, age 90, 8101 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, formerly of Quincy, died Friday, January 21, 2000 at the Claridge Court.

She was born August 29, 1909 in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of John Korn and Helen Von Volkland Korn, the operators of the Korn Bakery in Quincy.

She married Montgomery Browning Carrott of Quincy who preceded her in death. She later married Clinton L. Whhittemore, Jr. of St. Louis who also preceded her in death.

.Mrs. Whittemore attended Monticello College in Godfrey, IL>, the Art Institute of Chicago and Parsons School of Desisgn in New YorkCity. She worked in Chicago as a designer of china and vases and in Quincy as an interioir desisgner. She was a member of the American Sssocsiety of Interior Designers.

She was a great artust and loved to be outdoors painting the landscape. She was particularly fond of the Harbor Springs community, a place where she had spent the summers of the last 40 years. Her works are exhisbited in many of the residences and local establishments. She was really "one of a kind" and revered by all and she loved people and did wonderful things for others.

Mrs. Whittemore continued to play golf through last summer even though she had macular degeneration and was unable to see. For her 90th birthday her family gave her a new set of golf clubs which she played with often. She was a member of the Wequetonsing Golf Club in Harbor Springs

She was a life long member of the Quincy Artists' Guild and a life member of the First Union Congregational Church in Quincy.

She was also preceded in death by her sister Kathryn Korn Smith of Burnsville, MN. and a stepdaughter Barbara W. Gadarian.

For the past 5 years, she lived near her son and daughter-in-law in Claridge Court Life Care Community in Prairie Village, Ks

Mrs. Whittemore is survived by her son Philip W. Carrott and his wife Alice of Mission Hills,Ks., a daughter Anne Carrott Smith and her husband Collyer of Ann Arbor,MI. by 3 stepsons: Montgomery B. Carrott, Carbondale, Il, Allen W. Whittemore, Boynton Beach, Fl., and Clinton Whittemore, Palm Beach, Fl. She is also surved by 4 grandchildren: Philip W. Carrott, Jr., Mission Hills, Ks., Mary M. Carrott, New York City, Lucy R. Carrott, Mission Hills, Ks., and Collyer Campbell Smith, Ann Arbor, MI.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday morning, Jan. 26, 2000 at 11AM in the First Union Congregational LClhurch in Quincy with the Rev. Scott Snider officiating. Inurnment in Woodland Cemetery. Friends are invited to the services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Quincy Art Club to be used for youth in art education. Hansen-Spear Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
