I REALLY THINK THAT THIS IS A WONDERFUL THING YOU ARE DOING! I WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST A CHARITY FOR NEXT MONT IF I MAY. IT IS CALLED FOREVER KELTON. KELTON WOULD HAVE BEEN 1 YEAR OLD THIS MONTH BUT GOD CALLED HIM HOME WHEN HE WAS 8 DAYS OLD. HIS PARENTS HAVE BEEN ORGANIZING FUND RAISERS TO HELP THE NEONATAL UNIT IN ST. LOUIS. I REALIZE THAT THE NEONATAL UNIT IS NOT IN QUINCY, BUT MANY NEWBORN WITH SERIOUS PROBLEMS LIKE LITTLE KELTON ARE SENT THERE OR SPRINGFIELD. SO PLEASE TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION. THANK YOU!

      Rhonda,

Thank you for your suggestion. I agree that we have great resources at the Children’s Hospitals. My co-workers infant grandson was cared for by the good people at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital. While I feel these groups are indeed worthy of support, they just fall outside of the scope of this contest.

The GIVE BACK Contest was specifically designed to generate support, participation and awareness of groups locally. It is not meant to take away from other worthy causes, but it is meant to focus on groups here in the Quincy area so we can shine a spotlight on the organizations and needs here locally.

Hopefully the many people voting here will learn about the groups, be engaged with the contest, and potentially follow up and learn more so they can volunteer, donate and/or participate to help meet the needs we face in our community.

Thank you again for your suggestion. I appreciate feedback and the participation.

      Sincerely,
      Will Spear

I want to nominate the Midwest Military Family Connection. Myself along with Wounded Warrior Wife Jonnette Baze Co-Founded this Organization.

The goal for us is to support those that support our Military HEROES. Our Organization is not for Veterans it is for the Veterans supporters. The “HEROES behind the HERO”.

We have meetings once a month. The meetings our scheduled for the 2nd Thursday of each month. The May meeting will be held on May 11th starting at 6:30pm at the Quincy Library. We will meet in one of the meeting rooms. We will talk about books to help family members deal the day to day support of our HEROES.

If you have more interest in our group, feel free to checkout our Facebook page or call me (Dave) at 217-242-7425

What a wonderful way to give back to the community!!
    I applaud you!
The events of the last several days has been heartbreaking, causing many people sadness & anxiety.
Thank you for sharing and showing the ‘goodness’ still out there!!

    • Will Spear says:

      Thanks Cherie!

Every time I see another vote cast I take heart in knowing that people are engaged in the community and are taking time to care about someone else. It’s a group effort here and hopefully we will continue to build a larger base of people who are sharing the “goodness” in America with others.

      Blessings,
      Will Spear

After graduation I moved away from family and friends in Quincy. Over the past 45 years I have seen many of those friends, Great Aunts and Uncles, Grand Parents and acquaintances go through difficult trials and tribulations in one form or another. Living far away is very frustrating when you want to assist someone you love. The Quincy Senior & Family Resource Center has been undeniably the most helpful to those in need of answers and solutions to various issues. I would nominate that organization in a heartbeat as the most effective and important to Quincyans. A huge shout out and thank you to all who care and serve with “all their hearts”.

I want to say that Will Spear and Hansen-Spear Funeral Home are awesome. The Give Back program has helped so many smaller Organization in and around the Quincy area. I can’t say enough good things about them.

  6. samantha george says:

Let me express that I am very happy for what you do for the community. With that being said, I find it very selfish that there are people on here that has already won and are in it again and they are fighting against a little kid that has cancer.. I find that very selfish that they are trying to get votes when they already won and this poor little kid needs help as well…
