William Claude Thomas, age 71, of 210 Church St., New Canton, Illinois died Thursday, May 24, 201, at 9:40 a.m. in his home.
William was born September 20, 1940 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Lee Archie and Esther Lucille Crouch Thomas. He married Catherine Hartsock on February 10, 1987 in Hannibal. She survives.
William worked at Celtex Paper Mill for many years. After that he did many odd jobs. He loved fishing and his garden.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, William A. Thomas, Florida, Anita Fike (Mark), Orlando, Florida, Leanne Horton (Mike), Florida and Phyllis Quehl (Elvis), North Carolina, his grandchildren, Mike Horton, Florida, Tiffany and Sara Fike, Crystal (Quehl) Logan (Rahim) and Bradley Quel; greatgrandchildren, Skylie Baker and Taybryn Cazares, Cristopher and Alisha Klingensmith, Tyler Horton. and a sister Nancy Sanders of Quincy, IL
William was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Samuel Archie and Richard Wayne Thomas, a sister Phyllis Marie Thomas, both sets grandparents Samuel Claude and Emma Smith Crouch, Neila Parrack Shaw, two grandchildren William Anthony Thomas Jr and Amanda Thomas, three nephews and three wives.
William donated his body to the University of Tennessee Forensic Anthropology Center.
Memorial service: Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Burt Sapp officiating
Visitation: Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 6-7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
