Virginia McArron Hollyman

Virginia McArron Hollyman, age 93, of Good Samaritan Home and formerly of 101 N. 4th Quincy, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 8:35 a.m. at Good Samaritan Home.

Born June 12, 1917, in Galesburg, IL, Virginia McArron Brown was a daughter of Clarence Lyman and Mary Maude McArron Brown. She married S. Lee Hollyman on November 18, 1936, in Mt. Sterling, IL. He died April 30, 1983.

Mrs. Hollyman was a former member of the Hull Nazarene Church in Hull, IL. She was a graduate of Quincy Senior High School class of 1936 and a 1969 graduate of Quincy School of Practical Nursing. In addition, she took advanced nursing courses from John Wood Community College. Virginia was a long time employee of Good Samaritan Home and a member of the Good Samaritan Home Auxiliary. Also, she was a member of the LPN Association Division #18 of Illinois and a member of the Quincy Senior High School Alumni Association.

She loved reading, music, sewing and genealogy. She also enjoyed playing the piano and mandolin. Virginia’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Glen Hollyman of Quincy, IL, and Melvin Hollyman of Camp Point, IL; two grandchildren, Michael Hollyman and his wife Linda of Highlands Ranch, CO; and Marcia Giefer and her husband Pat of Castle Rock, CO; five great-grandchildren, David Gutierrez, Alegra Gutierrez and Danielle Giefer of Castle Rock, CO, Hannah Hollyman and Joel Hollyman of Highlands Ranch, CO; one sister, Catherine Brown Sands of San Jacinto, CA, and her husband John; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, C. Harvey Brown; and two sisters, Esther Hollyman, and Naomi Womack.

SERVICES: Monday, June 28, 2010 at 10:00 am in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Timothy A. White officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

VISITATION: Sunday, June 27, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

MEMORIALS: Trinity United Church of Christ or Good Samaritan Home.
