Twila M. Smith, age 87, of Mendon, died Monday, January 16, 2017, at 3:11 pm in Blessing Hospital.

Twila M. Smith | Hansen-Spear Funeral Home ~ Quincy, IllinoisTwila was born October 31, 1929 in Warsaw, Illinois, the daughter of Daniel Arthur and Savannah Coovert Gooding. She married Harley Smith on May 14, 1950 in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Warsaw, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 17, 1984.

Twila was a graduate of Warsaw High School. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Warsaw, Illinois. Twila thoroughly enjoyed the farming life with her husband, Harley. She even moonlighted a few seasons at the Leeper Apple Orchard in Lima. After Harley’s death, she continued to care for the farm, and took over the roles Harley had by serving as Supervisor of Lima Township and as the Treasurer for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She was employed outside the farm for Dr. Robert Wensing and later Drs. Thomas and Linda Wensing at Quincy Family Foot Care. She was a loving mother and grandmother to her family, and in her spare time, Twila enjoyed embroidery and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her daughter, Sarah (Mark) Hufendick of Quincy, IL; a grandson, Andrew James Smith of Mendon, IL; a niece, raised in the home, Pamela (Clarence) Garner of Blue Eye, MO, and her three children, Miranda (Kyle) Seward of Table Grove, IL, Lara (Adam) Walker of Godfrey, IL, and Avary (Charles) Scarber of Ursa, IL, and her six grandchildren, Aaron Joseph and Grace Ellerman, Devan and Taylor Walker, and Angel and Charlie Scarber; a sister, Lois Acker of LaGrange, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her beloved husband, Harley, Twila was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mary Roth, and five brothers, Vernon, Elmer, Donald, Kenneth and Raymond Gooding.

Services: 10:00 am on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in St. Paul’s Episcopal Churh in Warsaw, Illinois with the Rev. Larry Snyder officiating.

Visitation: 9:00 to 10:00 am on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Warsaw, Illinois.
