Roger K. Boone, age 78, of 255 E. 1945th Place, Plainville, IL died Thursday, March 16, 2017, at 10:45 am in his home.

Roger K. Boone | Hansen-Spear Funeral Directors, Quincy, IL 62301Roger was born March 27, 1938 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Leo and Gladys Weisenger Boone. On September 7, 1957 he married Rosalyn Ehrhardt in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. She survives.

Roger graduated from Payson Seymour High School in 1956. He joined the U.S. Army and transferred to the Army Reserves. He returned to the family farm in 1957 where he worked and lived all his life. Roger owned and operated Boone Welding and Repair from 1970 – 2002.

Roger was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where he was communion minister, usher, and shut-in communion minister. He also, was a member of St. Anthony Men’s Society, where he was past president, and helped with funeral dinners, fish fries, and chicken dinners.

Roger served twenty-five years on the Payson-Fall Creek Volunteer Fire Department, fourteen of those years as Chief. He served as Richfield Township Trustee and Supervisor for many years. He received the Community Service Award in 1998 from Plainville Lions Club, and the Community Builders Award from Plainville Masonic Lodge in 1991. He was a supporter of the Payson FFA and the Alumni.

In addition to his wife, Rosalyn, Roger is survived by his, three children, Roger J. ‘R.J.” (Marilyn) Boone of Plainville, IL, Raymond L. (Kim) Boone of Coatsburg, IL, and Rose (Dana) Lugering of Quincy; six grandchildren, R. Daniel Boone, Rachel Boone and her fiancé Dalton Berry, Ryan Boone, Chloe Boone, Crystal (Todd) Johnson, and Elizabeth (Clay) Harmon; a step-grandson, Taylor (Kim) Lear; six great grandchildren; a sister, Elaine (Loren) Simon of Liberty, IL; a brother, Norman (Nancy) Boone of Barry, IL; a sister-in-law Barbara Boone of Quincy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jim (Nancy) Boone and Marvin Boone.

Services: 10:00 am Monday, March 20, 2017 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, with Father Tom Donovan officiating.

Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Plainville, Illinois with military honors by Payson VFW Post 2061.

Visitation: 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Sunday March 19, 2017 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

Memorials: St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Payson-Fall Creek Fire Department, or Shiloh Cemetery.

  1. My sympathy to Marilyn, R.J. And children. I’m sure he will be sadly missed. I didn’t know him but in reading the condolences from others he must have been a great man and good example for his children and grand children.

  2. My condolences to the family of Great Uncle Roger Boone. My earliest memories of Uncle Roger include my dad (Anthony) and my grandpa (Marvin) going to Boone Welding and Repair to visit. Uncle Roger would tease me while the adults talked for what felt to a little kid like an eternity. I will cherish those treasured memories. Also, from one Army veteran to another, thank you for your service to our country. Rest in Peace.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it back for Uncle Roger’s services, but please know that I will be there in spirit and have sent big hugs back to IL with Dad & Mom for Aunt Rosie & all the family.

  15. I am so sorry to hear about Roger’s passing. I always admired Roger when I was young boy. My father often took equipment to Boone’s Welding and Repair in Plainville, so I feel like I have known Roger my whole life. He was a hard working man that was respected by everyone in the community and he always had a smile on his face. He will certainly be missed. My sincerest condolences to the family.
