Richard E. “Rick” Hawkins , age 58, of Quincy, died Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 2:37 am in Barnes Jewish Hospital.

Richard Hawkins | Hansen-Spear Funeral Home -Quincy, ILRick was born July 1, 1960 in Hannibal, Missouri, the son of Harry Lee and Flossie Jeanette Cannon Hawkins. He enjoyed going on road trips, especially when waterparks or Branson Missouri were involved. He loved conversation and talking with his friends. He never had a bad word to say about anybody. Rick attended church at Upper Room Christian Fellowship and Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. He Loved to sing and frequently sang at church services. He attended Mark Twain High School in Center, MO.

Survivors include: his partner since 2006, David Huffman of Quincy; three sisters, Anna (Ronald) Thomas of Bowling Green, MO, Tracy Andrews of Hannibal, MO, and Kim (fiance’ Michael Hawk) Pence of New London, MO, two brothers, Robert Dale (Estelle) Hawkins of Monroe City, MO, and Torrell (Angie) Hawkins of Hannibal, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles; and his beloved dog Tig.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Cathy Washington, and a brother Charles Hawkins.

Services: 10:00 am Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Greg Lueckenhoff and Rev. Matthew Hunt officiating.

Burial: Pleasant View Cemetery, New London, MO.

Visitation: 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Tuesday September 18, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

  8. Rick’s quiet calmness, sense of humor, humility, and easy-going attitude made him fun and carefree to spend time with. He was another grand-dad to my children and was family to us. He treated everyone in his presence with dignity and respect, was always up for a laugh and a card game. Rick was an unbelievably supportive partner and friend to my dad. We are going to miss him so very much.

  9. Tim and I are so sorry for your lost Van. We loved Rick very much and I will never forget all the fun we had in Branson in 2017. We will miss him deeply and we are always here for you anytime. He went way too young, but he’s I heaven singing in the choir already and in perfect peace. Love you Van and Tig.

  11. Rick was one of the kindest men I know, and boy what a wonderful voice he had! It was always a pleasure to hear him sing. My sympathies to David and all of Rick’s family.

  12. Sad i wasn’t able to see him more recently before he passed. But I will always remember Rick and Dave coming to Hardees for lunch and the whole place would just light up in their presence. Your face and aura will be truly missed. The world is a darker place without you. My thoughts and prayers go out to Rick’s family during this time of hardship.
