Norbert Gene “Pete” Peters, age 86, of 3628 Biscayne, Quincy, died on Friday, November 10, 2017, at 1:01 pm in the Arbors at Adams Pointe in Quincy.

Norbert "Pete" Peters | Hansen-Spear Funeral Home - Quincy, IllinoisPete was born on May 18, 1931 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Earl Lee and Mary Elizabeth Ostermueller Peters. He married the love of his life, Betty McGlasson, on February 14, 1959 in Warren, Missouri. She survives.

Pete graduated from Quincy High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1951 until 1955, during the Korean War. He was proud of his service to his country. Pete was employed by Western Union, Motorola, and Gardner Denver, where he retired in 1993 after 38 years.

Pete was a member of Madison Park Christian Church. He was a member of the Elks Club and the Gardner Denver Quarter Century Club. He volunteered at Blessing Hospital for 20 years and delivered meals on wheels.

Pete had a deep love for his blood and adopted family and friends. They all held a special place deep down in his heart. He enjoyed traveling, antiquing and refinishing furniture. Pete was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and he always had to be busy and have a project to work on. Pete was a sports fan and cheered on the St. Louis Cardinals, the Quincy High Blue Devils and the Quincy Notre Dame Raiders.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Betty, include his daughter, Lee Ann Peters of Quincy; a sister, Darlene Gieselman of Quincy; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; three special chosen daughters, Nora (Kenny) Ross of Mahwah, NJ, Nancy Ridder of Quincy, and Karen (Keith) Becket of Quincy; four special grandchildren, Samantha Ross of Mahwah, NJ, Adam and Austin Ridder of Quincy, and Katherine Becket of Springfield, IL; and his companion and fur baby, Maggy.

Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers and their wives, Walter and Nona Squires, Loyd and Margie Squires, Owen and Mary Squires, Don and Rose Ann Squires, Kenny and Mary Peters, and Orville and Norma Peters; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Gieselman.

Pallbearers will be Adam Ridder, Austin Ridder, Geoff Morthland, Matthew Ragan, Brad Ragan and Mike Ridder. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ray Nebe, John Saathoff, Bob Weisenburger, Steve Gieselman, Terry Bolt, and Ron Squires.

Services: 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with the Rev. Keith Ehresman officiating.

Burial: Andrew Chapel Cemetery, Warren, Missouri

Visitation: 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Monday November 13, 2017 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
