Mary F. Shores, age 77, of Quincy, died Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at 8:04 am at her home.

Mary Shores | Hansen-Spear Funeral Home - Quincy, ILMary was born November 7, 1940 in Kahoka, Missouri, the daughter of Lewis and Katherine Kirschner Schmid. She married Russell Lyle Shores on December 11, 1958. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1991.

Mary was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish for many years. She loved gardening and working outside in her yard.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Glennis (Melvin) Mellon of Payson, IL, and Cindy (Chuck) Nutt of Overland Park, KS; six grandsons, Bradley (Becky) Mellon of Payson, Jamie Mellon of Hannibal, MO, Brent (Tanya) Mellon of Quincy, IL, Joshua Mellon of Plainville, IL, Charles Nutt of Chicago, IL, and Brody Nutt of Dallas, TX; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister, Opal Moore of Covington, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Russell, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Vernon Schmid, two sisters, Anna Rose Roberts and Marie Walker, and a step-son, Dennis Shores.

Services: 9:30 am on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 prayers at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home and a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church, with Monsignor Michael Kuse officiating.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Monday May 14, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

    Your Mom and Dad will always remain special people in my life. They always made me feel welcome in your home. They both had a great sense of humor. Probably not appreciated as much when we were children and teenagers, but thought of fondly now. I had great respect for both your parents and of course I could never forget the wonderful pickles your mom made. I think of those days often Best friends really never leave your heart or your life totally. There is always good times to cherish. You and your family have my thoughts and prayers.

  3. Sorry for your loss. I will miss mary very much. After more than 20 years of styling her hair my Fri morning won’t ever be the same. I have enjoyed her company, our special talks, her recepi she would share and the many coupons she would always bring me. My thought and prayers are with you.
