Leona Louise “Sally” Settle

Leona Louise “Sally” Settle, age 93 of 1440 N. 10th Street, Quincy, died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 10:10 a.m. in St. Vincent’s Home.

She was born June 21, 1916 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Henry August and Anna Augusta Danhaus Lange. She married Merle Henry Settle in Hannibal, Missouri.

She was a member of Salem Evangelical Church of Christ and was baptized there on March 13, 1930.

Some of Sally’s fondest memories were from the restaurant they owned, “Jax Grill”. She watched the kids from the grill grow from carefree teens into their military uniforms, so starched and proud to serve. She posted their photos and letters for all to enjoy as they devoured the famous fries and cheeseburgers. Her hobby was taking photos of which, there are many baskets and boxes dating back to her childhood. She has left a wonderful legacy for all of us. She kept all those photos in a special album and we whiled away many hours with her enjoying those trips down memory lane.

Survivors include, a son; Wayne Settle and his wife Rita of Orlando, FL, a daughter; June Wiegmann of Quincy, 4 granddaughters; Linda Swink and her husband Steve, Tonya Pickens and her husband Mike, Angela Renee and Tina Settle Campbell and her husband Tom, 3 great grandsons; Thomas, Travis and Trevor Campbell, 3 great granddaughters; Brianna and Brittny Pickens and Natalie Nowak, a nephew; Ralph “Junie” Settle, a niece Anna Myers and her husband Dana and a brother-in-law, Edmund “Jack” Settle and his wife, Joyce, of Quincy.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son; Ronald Ralph Settle, a brother; Ferdinand Lange, three sisters; Verona Stairs, Irma and Irna Lange, and four half-sisters.

Services: Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 3:15 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery with Rev. Scott Swigart officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation: There will be no Visitation.

Memorials: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.
