John Wayne Caldwell, Sr.

John Wayne Caldwell, Sr., age 75, of 639 York Apt 513, Quincy, and former long-time resident of 1135 E. 2100th St., Liberty, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at 1:43 am in Blessing Hospital.

John was born June 17, 1937 in Muncie, Indiana, a son of Marion Franklin Caldwell and Reba Newton Caldwell Luellen. He married Sharon Kay Jackson on February 26, 1966 in Quincy. She survives.

In his early years, John was a construction worker who helped with the construction of Broadway St. In his later years, he did janitorial work for Faith Assembly of God, Riverside Community Church, and Sunset Home.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed time relaxing in his retirement by putting puzzles together and working crossword puzzles. His most treasured time was spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, survivors include five children: Lena (Lonnie) Sparks of Ewing, MO; John (April) Caldwell Jr. of Quincy; Kelly Caldwell of Quincy; Tammy Caldwell of Liberty, IL; and Donald Caldwell of Liberty, IL; seven grandchildren, Amber, Nathan, Tyler, and Taylor Caldwell, Shelby Launer, Kyle Beaston, and Lincoln John Caldwell; a brother, Ora “Bud” Caldwell; two sisters: Alice Tackett and Pamm Wilson; and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marion “Buster” Caldwell.

Memorial Service: 2:00 pm Saturday, March 2, 2013 at The Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center

Visitation: 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, March 2, 2013 at The Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center

Memorials: Cardiovascular Unit at Blessing Hospital or Blessing Hospice for all the wonderful care and concern they gave to John and his family during this trying and hard time.
