On April 5, 2018 at 1:15 a.m., H. Dean King (68) died peacefully in his sleep at Blessing Hospital after an eight month battle with cancer.

Herman Dean King | Hansen-Spear Funeral Home ~ Quincy, IllinoisDean was born January 12, 1950 in Providence, Rhode Island. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janice (Shaver) King of Liberty, IL. Also surviving are his son Jeffery King, daughter-in-law Angel, grandson Robert of Clayton, IL, his daughter Danielle King of Liberty, IL and his faithful dog, Reggie.

Dean was employed as an engineer with Caterpillar, Inc from which he retired in 2000 after 30 years of service. After retiring to the family farm in Liberty, Dean and Jan opened and ran King Repair Service until 2014.

In his free time, Dean enjoyed taking part in community service oriented organizations. He served as president of the Liberty Lion’s Club, was an active member of the Payson Masons, and served on the Adams County Housing Authority Board.

Dean loved hunting, fishing and especially camping with his wife and friends at Whispering Oaks Campground in Mendon, IL.

Dean specifically requested to forgo all services. Instead, his wish was to be cremated and have his ashes returned to the farm he loved.

He also requested that any donations be directed to a memorial fund established at Farmer’s Bank of Liberty.


Hansen-Spear Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

  1. Went to high school with Dean. Had several classes with him but had not scene him since then. Had a great laugh and just remember him as friendly and easy going. Prayers to him and family members.

  2. Jim enjoyed working with Dean at the Adams County Lions Fair Stand! They has a lot in common and could talks matters over and see eye to eye. Prayers for his family. Thinking of you Jim and Peggy Hesse

  3. Jan forgot to mention that Dean has two daughters Ellyn King and Deanna King along with two grand Children Rhiannon and Joshua Lowe and two Great grand children Zoey And Emma

  4. Sorry to the news:-( I have worked many years with Dean as he was our Chairman for the American Red Cross Blood Drives. He will be missed by all. RIP Dean❤️
