Donald J. “Donnie” Damon, age 62, of Quincy, died on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 12:57 p.m. in North Adams Home in Mendon, IL.

Donald Damon | Hansen-Spear Funeral Home - Quincy, ILHe was born August 7, 1956 in Quincy, the son of Donald C. and Marie L. Merker Damon.

Donnie was raised in a racing family. In his younger years, he used his four wheeler to push start midgets at Bearcreek race track in Camp Point, IL. Donnie was also a loyal race fan at Quincy Raceways. He never missed an event, until recent years due to poor health. Some of Donnie’s favorite drivers were NASCAR #3, Dale Earnhardt Sr. and, at Quincy Raceways, Mark Burgtorff, Dale Hatfield, and most recently, Ben Huff and his nephews, Dakota and Alex Hatfield.

Donnie built pallets for many years at Transitions in the pallet shop. Donnie also helped with the family farm and ran a goat farm with his siblings.

Donnie was a member of the Lutheran Church of St. John.

Survivors include: his mother, Marie Damon; two sisters, Jana (Dan) Cutforth and Rosemary Hatfield; and a brother, Joseph (Windi) Damon, all of Quincy; two nieces; Jessica Cutforth and Danyel Damon; two nephews: Dakota and Alex Hatfield; a great nephew; his beloved dog, Scooter; and two “Dog nieces”, Bella and Ellie Mae.

Donnie was preceded in death by his father.

Graveside Services: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Burton Cemetery with Pastor Steve Hayden officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

Burial: Burton Cemetery.

Memorials: to the family c/o Marie Damon for funeral expenses.

  1. Rosemary I am so sorry to hear of Donnie’s passing. He always had a smile when we would go visit Mom at the home. I have a lot of memories with Donnie. We will keep him in our prayers. Thinking of you all at this difficult time.
