Robert Webster
Robert Glenn Webster, Jr., 82, of Quincy entered into rest on Thursday, August 26, 2010 in Warner Robins, GA in the home of his daughter, Sharon.

Mr. Webster was born on September 1, 1927 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Robert Glenn Webster, Sr., and Elizabeth Sheiss Webster. On October 1, 1950 he married Irene Wessel in Quincy. She survives.

A devout Christian man, he was a lifelong member of Quincy Seventh Day Adventist Church where he proudly served as Head Elder, Head Deacon, Superintendant of Sabbath School, Chairman of the Building Committee, and various other committees.

A graduate of Quincy High School, he proudly served in the United States Army. During WWII. Robert was stationed at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. where he was in charge of medical supply. A member of Adams County Farm Bureau, Robert owned and farmed his land in Illinois. He was an avid traveler and loved the outdoors and nature. He was the Owner and Manager of several residential properties. Robert, the cornerstone of his family, was a leader and provider; a legacy his family is proud to carry on.

His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife of sixty years, Irene Louise Webster, Quincy, IL; children, Robert E. Webster and his wife Deborah, Ashland, IL; Sharon L. Taylor and her husband Marvin, Warner Robins, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer S. Webster, Joshua Webster, Benjamin Taylor, Nathaniel Taylor, Shaunda Taylor; great grandchildren, Sidney Webster, Mason Taylor, Logan Taylor, and so many other loving relatives and friends.

His parents, Robert Glenn Webster, Sr., and Elizabeth Sheiss Webster, preceded him in death.

Visitation: Saturday (Sept. 4, 2010) from 12:30 - 2 pm at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Funeral: Saturday (September 4, 2010) at 2:00 p.m at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Pastor Adrian Amarandei officiating.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations to the Robert Glenn Webster Memorial Fund in care of State Street Bank, Quincy, Illinois.

Nicole Ruffcorn
Nicole D. Ruffcorn, age 28, of 2913 Lemay Ferry Rd., Apt. A, St. Louis, MO died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 4:37 p.m.

She was born June 11, 1982 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Kevin and Tracy Callahan Phillips. On October 18, 2007 she married Steven M. Ruffcorn in Quincy. He survives.

Nicole was a 2000 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame. She received her medical assistant certificate at Vatterott College and began her career as a CNA at Good Samaritan Home. She worked at several nursing homes and was very passionate about her work caring for Alzheimer patients. Nicole was an avid reader and would read anything she could get her hands on. She enjoyed music and played the flute. She had a great love for her family and she had a large group of very close friends.

Survivors include her husband, Steven Ruffcorn of Mendon, IL; her father, Kevin Phillips and wife Brenda of Quincy, and her mother, Tracy Phillips of Quincy; two sisters, Rebekah Phillips of Sun Prairie, WI, and Anna Phillips of Quincy; maternal grandmother, Glenda Callahan-Kinner and husband Ron of Chatham, IL; paternal grandparents, Larry and Roxanna Phillips of Quincy; a step sister, Megan Howell and husband Peter and step brothers, Gavin and Logan Weed, all of Quincy; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Lloyd Callahan.

Services: 10:00 am - Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Church of St. Peter with Rev. Roy Bauer officiating. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville, IL.

Visitation: 9-10 Monday, August 30 at the Church of St. Peter

Ralph S. Loennig, Jr., 83, formerly of Quincy, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010, in Melbourne, FL.

Rev. James W. McCoy

Rev. James W. McCoy, age 88, of 4405 Cedar Ridge, Quincy, went home to glory on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 10:25 a.m. at the Illinois Veterans Home.

He was born March 4, 1922 in Jasper County, Illinois and the son of Harry and Sylvia Cummins McCoy. On September 2, 1951 he married his sweetheart, Jean Bartram in Sumner, Illinois. She survives.

James was a corporal in the U.S. Army and was a WWII veteran and a POW in Germany. He asked Jesus Christ to be his Savior during his teenage years. He answered the call to preach during the War. After college, he was an evangelist and pastored churches in Illinois, Missouri, and Ohio until becoming the chaplain at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL. After retiring from being a chaplain, he continued his ministry by pastoring in his boyhood church in Yale, IL until he became ill in 2005 and moved back to Quincy. He was an accomplished singer, could play any instrument he layed his hands on and was an avid White Sox fan.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four children: Jon McCoy and his wife, Dawn, of Mendon, IL; Joyce Farlow and her husband, Rev. Mickey, of Quincy; Dr. Bruce McCoy and his wife, Cindy, of St. Louis, MO; and Jenifer Westervelt and her husband, Norm, of Montgomery, AL; ten grandchildren: Shannon McCoy and his wife, Stacy, Jason McCoy and his wife, Rose, Jeremy Farlow and his wife, Tara, Andrea Chamberland and her husband, Paris, Julia Forshe and her husband, Nick, Katie and Zach McCoy, and Norman, James, and Cami Westervelt; ten great-grandchildren: Emma, Tyler, Katelyn, Khloey, Angela, Nathan, Matthew, Alyssa, Natalie, and Noah; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, James Farley, and an infant granddaughter, Brooke Lyn.

Services: Monday, September 6, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Bruce McCoy and Rev. Mickey Farlow officiating. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

Visitation: Sunday, September 5 from 4-6 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home and Monday from 9-10 am at Calvary Baptist Church.

Memorials: Calvary Baptist Church or Illinois Veterans' Home Activity Fund.

James W. 'Jim' Koch
James William Koch, age 75, of 2612 Dundee Circle, Quincy, died Sunday, August 18, 2010 at 6:35 pm in Blessing Hospital.

He was born October 8, 1934 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Fred William and Louise Helen Spindler Koch. On June 10, 1961 he married Mary Ellen Whitmer in Quincy, Illinois. She survives.

He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Jim worked for his father at the Illinois School Supply and was then an insurance salesman. He was also a salesman at Beilstein Camper Sales. After retirement Jim worked at the Elks Lodge BPOE 100. He was a charter member of the Evening Lions Club and later was a member of the Noon Lions Club. He was a member of the Jaycees and Exhausted Roosters, the Elks Club, Life Underwriters, and American Legion Post 37. Jim loved flowers and his gardening, people watching, football and especially the St. Louis Rams. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors also include, 3 daughters and a son, Jill Hulsey and husband Kent of Heber Springs, AR, Susan Tode of Quincy, Timothy Koch and wife Tracy of Clearwater, FL, and Lori Shook and husband Kenneth of Kirksville, MO; 11 grandchildren, Michael, Ashley, Seth, Jared, John, Elizabeth, Sarah, Heather, Erica, Rosemary, and Elise; 2 great grandchildren, Ethan and Austin; a brother, Howard O. Koch and wife Arlene, Quincy; 4 sisters, Jean Powers and husband Dr. Francis, Susie Longo, and Joyce Hunter, all of Quincy, Mary Heintz, of N. Fondulac, WI; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Melvin and Norbert Koch, and a cousin Jack Koch.

Services: 11:00 am - Thursday, August 12, 2010, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Selves officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation: 4-7 pm Wednesday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home

Polly Taylor
Polly L. Taylor, age 50, of 430 S. 14th St., Quincy, died Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 1:40 am in Timber Point Health Care Center.

She was born May 31, 1960 in Carthage, Illinois the daughter of Loyd and Leona Miller Purtle.

Polly was a very strong and independent woman. She loved her job as a caregiver for Care Link Home Health Care where she bonded with her clients and always went the extra mile for them. Polly made sure the people she loved knew how much she loved them. She took great pride in being a Grandma.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Tabitha and Tiffany Taylor, and two grandchildren, James and Laralin Wiskirchen, all of Quincy: her parents, Loyd and Leona Purtle of Warsaw, IL: 3 sisters, Peggy Purtle of Quincy, Penny Dunker and husband Greg, both of Quincy, Renee Donnelly and husband Jeff of Sutter, IL; 2 brothers, Jim Purtle of Carthage, IL and Frank Purtle and wife Elizabeth of Augusta, IL; numerous nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her brother, Rick Purtle.

James Gallagher
James Joseph Gallagher, age 68, of 2609 Kings Pointe SW, Quincy, died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 2:20 am in Blessing Hospital.

He was born August 1, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of Joseph James and Hermine Amelia Wernsing Gallagher.

He was a Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy from 1963-1967 and was stationed at the Naval Air Station Grosse Ile in Michigan. He was an avid soccer player in his youth. He loved boating and baseball and was considered a workaholic. James was a smart businessman. After the Navy he was employed by Phillips 66 and then Hancock County FS as pertroleum manager. He bought his first convenience store in Payson, the Amoco Food Shop, and expanded to Camp Point and Meredosia. He also operated the convenience store in Ursa.

Survivors include his ex-wife and friend Theresa Gallagher, of Quincy; his daughter, Caroline Megan Gallagher of Quincy: a sister, Patricia Michaels of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and a special friend, Helen Davis. He was a beloved brother-in-law, uncle and special friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services: Family and friends are invited to a gathering to celebrate James' life at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, September 19th at the Quincy Eagles Club.

David Totsch
David Wayne Totsch, age 60, of 6701 Broadway, Quincy, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at 2:55 pm in Blessing Hospital following a short bout with cancer.

He was born February 18, 1950 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Harold Franklin and Ada Arlene Hougland Totsch. On March 24, 1974 he married Inez Ilene Gerdes at Trinity Lutheran Church, Golden, Illinois. She survives.

David was a 1968 graduate of Liberty High School. He was a self employed truck driver for many years and was then the manager and a driver for Evans Recycling.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughter, Stacey Dunmire and husband John of Quincy; his grandson, Alex Logan of Quincy and a granddaughter due in October; a sister, Sandra Hildebrandt of Quincy; 3 brothers. Dennis Totsch and wife Kathleen, Terry Totsch and wife Juanita, and Jerry Totsch and wife Pam, all of Liberty, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of David's life will be held Saturday, August 28 - 4:00 pm at his home, 6701 Broadway.

Doris Hudson
Doris M. Hudson, age 87of 5511 Swift Road, Sarasota, FL, (formerly of 3617 Briarwood Quincy and 2930 Bay Oaks Drive, Sarasota, FL) died Monday, August 23, 2010 at 4:10 p.m. in Manor Care Nursing Home in Sarasota, Florida.

She was born April 16, 1923 in Murphysboro, Illinois, the daughter of Roscoe and Hattie McRoy Crossin.

On March 17, 1944, she married James C. Hudson in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He survives.

She was employed by Brown Shoe Company. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Quincy Women's City Club and a former member of Quincy Spring Lake Country Club. She was a volunteer at Blessing Hospital and a board member of the Women's Guild. She was a well known golfer in Quincy who chaired the Women's Golf at Spring Lake Country Club and won top honors in golf in Quincy.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters: Jill Grawe and her husband, Greg, of Sarasota, Florida; and Brenda Hudson, of Chandler, AZ ; and a granddaughter, Michelle Jones, of Chandler, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Rocky & Floyd Crossin and a sister Louise Smith.

Services: Friday, August 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Ivan Grueter officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation: Friday from 10 - 11 a.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Michael "Howie" Howe
 
Michael "Howie" Howe, age 49 of 210 Kiick St., Latham, IL, died Monday, August 23, 2010 at 3:18 p.m. in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 16, 1961 in Quincy, IL, the son of David C. Howe, Sr. and Eileen Batson Howe.

Michael attended Quincy High School. He worked as a welder for a number of local businesses including Speedrack and Doyles in Quincy and Port Industries in Palmyra, MO. Michael attained his certification as a Motorcycle Repair Technician from the American Motorcycle Institute in Daytona, FL. He was employed by Coziahr's Harley Davidson in Forsythe, IL.

Survivors include: his mother, Eileen Howe of Quincy; a brother, David C. Howe, Jr. and his wife Stacy of Springfield, IL; a sister, Kathleen Howser of Quincy; 2 nieces, Amerika Kies and her husband Dan of Burlington, IA; and Kristin M. Howser of Quincy; two great-nephews, Gavin and Griffin Kies of Burlington, IA; and a great-niece, Skylor Sohn of Quincy. He was preceded in death by his father and a niece Kayla M. Howser.

Services: There will be no funeral service

Visitation: Thursday, August 26, 4-7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Helen Hill
Helen R. Hill, age 96, of 603 N. 12th, Quincy, died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 9:01 a.m. in Blessing Hospital.

She was born April 28, 1914 in Adams County, IL the daughter of Lloyd A. and Pearl Predmore Johnson. On November 24, 1934 she married Frank A. Hill. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1985. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1984.

Helen and her husband owned and operated a farm near Barry, Illinois until 1971 when they moved to Quincy. She was employed by Chaddock School until her retirement in 1976. She and her husband owned and managed apartment buildings for as long as their health permitted. She was an active member of Faith Assembly of God Church where she was a Bible teacher for adult classes.

Survivors include her son, Weldon Hill of Quincy; a daughter, LaDonna VanKlaveren of Moline, IL; a granddaughter, Valerie Hardison and husband John of Iowa City, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Mrs. Gary (Yvette) Weideman, 2 brothers, Wayne and Lawrence Johnson, sister, Vivian Brown and a son-in-law, Dewayne VanKlaveren.

Services: 11:00 am Monday, August 30, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. V. Lee Amsler and Rev. Greg Lueckenhoff officiating. Burial will be in Mound Prairie Cemetery, Beverly, IL.

Visitation: 10-11 am Monday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
