Hansen-Spear LeafLester R. 'Les' Bergman     

 
Lester R. Bergman, age 88, of 900 Kochs Lane, died Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 4:55 am in Sunset Home.

He was born March 22, 1920 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Herman and Clara Niehaus Bergman. On December 26, 1942 he married Judy A. Gregory in Quincy. She survives.

He was a graduate of Quincy High School. He then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II and returned home to Bergman Nurseries in 1946 where he was a partner in the business until his retirement in 1985.

He was a life member of St. John's Catholic Church serving as a trustee and a board member of the Catholic cemetery for many years. He was currently a member of St. Francis Church, and was also a member of the American Legion Post #37, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, a life member of the Knights of Columbus and the National Rifle Association. Les really enjoyed family gatherings. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors also include his five children, Greg and his wife Judy, Quincy, Stephen and his wife Lonna, Carthage, IL, Theresa Corben and her husband Arnold, Jacksonville, AR, Mark and his wife Donna, and Mike and his wife Karen, both of Quincy; his grandchildren, William, Sara, Daniel, Nicole, Matthew, Seth, Jessica, Lisa, Scott and Shannon; ten great grandchildren, and two brothers, Donald Bergman and his wife Ann, and Willis Bergman and his wife Sue, both of Quincy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lucille Hollender, his grandson, David Corben and his granddaughter; Rebecca Marie Bergman.

Services: Private family graveside inurnment will be held at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation: 4-7pm Friday, May 23 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
