Katherine "Darl" Witt, 86, formerly of 1720 No. 12th died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 10:07 pm in Good Samaritan Home.

She was born October 9, 1921 in Beverly, Illinois, the daughter of Lawrence and Alma Rhoades Mayfield. In November, 1940, she married Lyle A. Witt in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death September 22, 1949.

She was a graduate of Quincy Beauty Academy in 1952 and was a beautician for over 45 years.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was an AWANA leader for many years. She was an avid gardener, and loved fishing with her grandchildren. Darl's greatest joys were her grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately called her, "Gorney". She was a person who would give of herself if someone was in need. Survivors include 2 daughters, Carmen Taylor and her husband Donald E. of Quincy and Sue Dulaney and her husband Donald of Maywood, MO; 6 grandchildren: Mardell Harvey and her husband Bruce, Melissa Speer and her husband Jon, Melinda Oyos and her husband Mark, Matthew Taylor and his wife Kate, Douglas Baker and his wife Tali, Susan Smith and her husband Darren; 16 great grandchildren: Katie Harvey, Karli Harvey, Kristin Speer Damitz, Kylie Speer, Kelsey Speer, Taylor Grace Oyos, Samuel Oyos, Jonathan Taylor, Hannnah Grace Taylor, Joey Kathrine Taylor, Evan Miles Baker, Jentry Allen Baker, Jackson Reid Smith, Harrison Wade Smith, John Lyle Baker and Willa Hope Baker; a sister Louise Hendricks, and a brother, Dewey Mayfield, both of Mt. Sterling, IL. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 3 sister and 4 brothers.
