Mary Catherine Egbers

Mary Catherine Egbers, age 94, of 2625 Lind, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 9:29 a.m. in Blessing Hospital.

She was born July 26, 1913 in Hannibal, MO the daughter of Owney and Alba Conley Mahoney. On September 28, 1935 she married John K. 'Red' Egbers in Jerseyville, IL. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1992.

In her early years she worked at Pearsons, St. Mary's Hospital in the laundry, and at the Illinois State Bank. She was also very active in the PTA in her early years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary 5129. She loved to sew, crochet, quilt, and was an avid fan of game shows. She dearly loved all her grandchildren and they always made her smile.

Survivors include six children, Gene (Sharon) Egbers, Quincy, Barbara Egbers, Des Moines, IA, John (Judy) Egbers, Quincy, Mary Kay (Bob) McCarthy, Des Moines, Carl (Terry) Egbers, Byron, MN, Ed (Joyce) Egbers, Des Moines; 12 grandchildren, David (Sonna) Egbers, Kathy (Mike) Hawk, Barb (Steve) Crabtree, Deb Egbers, Tammie Egbers, and John W. Egbers all of Quincy, Lori (Jeff) Chayet, Daniel McCarthy, and Mike Egbers all of Des Moines, Cathy Richardson, Altoona, IA, Elissa Egbers, Byron, MN, and Andrea Egbers, Rochester, MN; 16 great grandchildren, Kristi (Lance) Reeder, Kayla, Steve, Kimberly, and Josh Crabtree, Nick and Bethany Dooley, Forrest and Kaitlyn Hawk, Garin, Myla, Dominic, and Cameron Egbers, Zachary and Lauren Chayet, and Keely Richardson; a sister-in-law, Pearlie Mahoney, Quincy; two brothers-in-law, Jack (Lynda) Egbers, Arlington, Texas, and Harold (Mildred) Egbers, Bloomington Illinois.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a stepfather, Sam Riley; a sister Lillie Willison; a brother Marvin Mahoney; a stepbrother, Bernard Riley; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Egbers; a grandchild, Erin Egbers; and a great grandchild, Christian Richardson.

Services: 2 pm Friday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with the Chaplain Steve Disseler officiating. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

Visitation: 5-7 pm Thursday at Hansen-Spear.

Memorials: Blessing Foundation for Hospice or Charity of the Donor's Choice.
