She was born March 7, 1926 in Clinton, Iowa the daughter of Edwin and Eleanor Bebensee Edens. On April 28, 1946 she married William Echelbarger in Clinton, Iowa. He survives.
She graduated from Lyons High School, Clinton, IA, and attended Central College, Pella, IA. Dorothy was employed at Echart, Peterson, Leeming in Chicago as a legal secretary. She was a Past President of the Women's City Club in Quincy (1982-1984). She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church.
Dorothy enjoyed playing the piano, and was a church organist. She started a children's choir at Edward's Congregational Church in Davenport, IA. She enjoyed, bridge, golf, bowling, both fresh and salt water fishing, and people. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Survivors also include three children, Jill Montgomery and husband Alex, LaGrange, GA, Susan Kozak and husband Lawrence, Athens, OH, and William Echelbarger and wife Sarah, Quincy; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a step brother, Ray Nissen, Pinehurst, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Adam Nolan Kozak; a sister, Diane Eggers; and a step sister, Betty Lanphere.
Services: 2:00 pm Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Community Reformed Church, 747 N 12th, Clinton, Iowa, with Rev. Alex Montgomery officiating. Inurnment will be in Springdale Cemetery, Clinton, Iowa
Visitation: 4-7 pm Tuesday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
