Lilburn 'Ed' Bailey

Lilburn "Ed" Bailey, age 85, of 2709 N. 12th St., died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 4:15 a.m. in Bickford Cottage.

He was born April 21, 1922 in Elmer, Missouri the son of Edgar and Eutopia Octavia White Bailey. On August 18, 1945 he married LaCena LaCost in LaPlata, MO. She survives.

He attended Northeast Missouri State University and graduated from the Kansas City Radio Institute and the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, D.C.

He served in WWII from 1942 to 1946 as Chief Radio Officer in Maritime Services.

Ed was employed by the Missouri Highway Patrol as a radio officer in Macon, MO from 1946 to 1955. In 1955 he started his own business, the Bi-State Communications Service in Quincy. He retired in 1991.

He was a past member of the Spring Lake Country Club, a 50-year member of the LaPlata Masonic Lodge #237, Ansar Shrine, Quincy Shrine, Quincy Consistory, Elks Lodge and Quincy American Legion.

In addition to his wife, LaCena Bailey, survivors include his loving daughter, Dr. LaGenia Bailey of Chicago, IL; a sister, Lora Doone Laughery and her husband, Bill, of Kansas City, MO; an aunt, Kathryn Stull of Liberty, MO; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory L. Bailey; daughter #2, Mary M. York; his parents; a brother William R. Bailey and his wife June.

Graveside Services: Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenmount Cemetery with the Rev. Henry Pratt officiating.

Visitation: Tuesday, March 11, 2008 from 4-7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
