James Loraine Mayfield, age 91, of
1200 University Ave., Carlinville, IL formerly of Girard and Quincy, IL,
died Friday, June 20, 2008 at 5:40 p.m. at Heritage Man or
in Carlinville, IL.He was born September 30, 1916 in Siloam Springs, IL, the son of Orville and Alice Zeh Mayfield. On September 14, 1946 he married Virginia L. Faulconer in Quincy, IL. She preceded him in death on January 2, 1999. James was a Veteran and served in the European Theater during World War II. He was a lifetime member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Quincy, IL and also served as a member of the American Legion. James retired from Harris Corporation in September 1978, where he was employed for over 27 years. James was also an avid St Louis Cardinals Baseball fan. His favorite hobby was entertaining his family and friends by playing tunes on his various harmonicas. Survivors include a son, Dennis James Mayfield and his wife Joyce of Auburn, IL; two grandchildren, Chad Eric Mayfield and his wife Beth of Springfield, IL and Amanda Lee Kaburick and her husband Joe of Carlinville, IL; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Joshua and Erica Mayfield all of Springfield, IL. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters; Rosile Neubauer, Floy Rudisill and Vivian Thompson, and a brother, Don K. Mayfield. Services: Friday, June 27, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Quincy, IL with Mr. Jerry Doyle officiating. Burial will follow in Quincy Memorial Park.
