Robert James Hoebing of 831 Hillary Court, Longwood, Florida, formerly of Quincy, died June 23, 2008 at 6:59 p.m. in his home.

He was born on September 11,1927 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Alphonse and Mary Murphy Hoebing. On April 12, 1947 he married Marjorie Ellen Hillebrenner in Memphis, TN. She survives.

He attended St. John's Grade School and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1945. He attended Notre Dame University in 1945 on a football scholarship. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947 at the Great Lakes Naval Base and in Millington, TN. He attended St. Ambrose college in 1948 and graduated from Quincy College in 1951.

He was in the F.B.I. and was discharged due to and enlarged heart muscle. He worked for the McCormic Spice Company in 1952 and for Colgate Palmolive Company from 1952-1958. From 1958 to 1959 he worked for Gem City Savings and Loan. From 1959-1980 he was employed with Davis Cleaver and owned Cannon Ball Lakes from 1980 until 1986. He and his wife Marjorie moved to Longwood, FL in 1989.

He was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Longwood, Florida. He enjoyed golf, reading and working as a handyman.

Survivors in addition to his wife include, a daughter, Cherie Tucker and her husband Keith of Huntington Beach, CA; three sons, Bob Hoebing II and his wife Gail of Port Orange, FL, Ted Hoebing and his wife Tammy of LaSalle, IL, Brad Hoebing; three grandchildren, Nikki Hoebing of LaSalle, IL, and Ashley and Travis Tucker of Huntington Beach, CA; two brothers, Richard Hoebing and his wife Ann, and Donald Hoebing and his wife Ruth; and numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Pete Hoebing.

SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Prayer Service Monday, July 7, 2008 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home followed by at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, with the Fr.Phil Hoebing officiating. Inurnment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

VISITATION: 4-7 pm Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with a wake service at 6:00 p.m.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the family for a memorial fund to be selected at a later date. Memorials can be sent to Marjorie Hoebing, 831 Hillary Court, Longwood, FL 32750.
