He was born April 16, 1923 in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois, the son of Arthur Charles and Viola M. Clobes Cox.

On July 2, 1949 he married Noma Fay Prater in Quincy, IL. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2005.

Art graduated from Quincy High School in June 1941. He graduated from Gem City Business College in December, 1942 and from Northwestern School of Business in January 1945. In September, 1945 he accepted a position with the Knapheide Manufacturing company. He became Secretary of the company on June 1, 1956 and assumed the dual roles of Secretary-Treasurer starting March 30, 1976 and retired from that position in May of 1996. He served on the Knapheide Mfg. Company Board of Directors from June 1, 1956 until the time of his death. He was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ in Quincy

Survivors include two sons, Jack C. Cox and his wife Peggy, Bellingham, WA, and A. Clay Cox and his wife Kathleen, Bloomington, IL; 4 grandchildren, Meghan Johnson and her husband Joe, Milwaukee, WI, Sean Cox, Bellingham, WA, Patrick and Christopher Cox, Chicago, IL; a brother, Jack C. Cox and his wife Petey, Fayetteville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

GRAVESIDE SERVICES: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Greenmount Cemetery with the Rev. Wanda Seydel officiating.
