He was born May 7, 1912 in Marissa, Illinois the son of John and Anna Herich Tickus. On November 4, 1962 he married Ann Tickus in Hillsboro, Illinois. She preceeded him in death on April 5, 2005.

Louis served in the United States Coast Guard from 1930 to 1937. He held a supervisory position for 20 years at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor until his retirement in 1968. He later worked for R.M. Young Co. in Ann Arbor and Traverse City, MI, developing meteorlogical equipment until 1976. Louis was a member of Grandview Church.

Survivors include: a step-son, Ron Doyle and his wife Patty of Fowler; a grandson Richard Cialone of Dearborn, MI; a granddaughter, Johanna Bowling of Middleboro, KY; 6 great grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Larry Tickus of Oak Park, IL. In addition to his wife he was preceeded in death by his parents and a daughter Marilyn Tickus.
