G. Arthur " Art" Keller, Jr. age 67 of 6113 Lentz Road, died Thursday,
November 1, 2007 at 9:28 am. in Blessing Hospital.
He was born October 23, 1940 in Quincy, Illinois the son of G. Arthur and
Marcia Kathryne Knapheide Keller, Sr.. On February 3, 1962 he married
Lillian "Lil" Meerstein in Quincy, Illinois. She survives.
He was a 1958 graduate of Quincy High School and attended S.I.U. Carbondale.
He worked his entire life at George Keller and Sons, the store was 127 years
old and was started by his great grandfather. Art's passion was the seed
business and the family store.
He was a commissioner for the Tri-Township Fire Department for many years.
He was also a member of the Adams County Farm Bureau, Employers Association
of Illinois, Historic Quincy Business District, Illinois Crop Improvement
Association, Illinois Foundation Seeds, Illinois Manufacturers association,
Illinois Retail Merchants Association, Illinois Seed Trade Association
Illinois State Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Turfgrass Foundation,
Industrial Association of Quincy, Iowa Seed Association, Midwest Equipment
Dealers Association, Missouri Seedsmen's Association, NAEDA Equipment
Dealers, Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce, Quincy Preserves and Western Seed
Association.
Survivors also include a daughter, Kristine A. Keller of Quincy; a stepson, David L.
Van Doorn of Quincy; 2 grandsons, Maurice "Reece" E. King IV and Nicholas A.
Keller both of Quincy, a sister, Heidi K. Brenner and husband Michael of
Knoxville, TN; and his stepmother, Bette B. Keller of Quincy, IL. He was
preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be Monday, November 5, 2007, at 2 p.m. in St. James Lutheran
Church with the Rev. Marlin Rempfer officiating. Visitation will be Sunday,
November 4 from 4-7 pm at Hansen Spear Funeral Home. Burial will be in
Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials made to Community Foundation of the Quincy
Area, Quincy Park District Foundation, Quincy Humane Society or St. James
Lutheran School in his name would be appreciated. Hansen-Spear Funeral
Directors are in charge of arrangements. |
