James F. Finke,
age 93, 935 E. Jefferson, Morton, formerly of Quincy died Wednesday, March 7 at 12:35 am
in his home.
He was born July 30, 1913 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Fred M. Finke
and Lena Vorndam Finke.
On October 9, 1937, he married Evelyn H. Mayfield in Quincy. She
preceeded him in death on November 29, 2005.
Mr. Finke lived in Quincy for many years and from August 15, 1929 to
August 1975 he was employed as a teller at Mercantile Trust and Savings Bank. After
retirement the Finkes moved to Florida where they lived until they moved to Morton to be
near their daughter. Mr. Finke was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton and had
been a member of St. James Lutheran Church while in Quincy.
Survivors include: a daughter, Sara K. Cornwell and her husband Larry
of Morton; 4 grandchildren, Brent D. Cornwell and his wife Dimitia of Lombard, IL; Krista
L. Suri and her husband Bhuvan of Baltimore, MD; Michelle Walker and her husband Jeff of
Banner Elk, N.C.; Todd M. Cornwell of Boulder, CO, and 9 great grandchildren. In addition
to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister Vera A. Haller.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at the St. James Lutheran
Church with Rev. Marlin Rempfer. Visitation will be Friday from 4-6 pm at Hansen Spear.
Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James
Lutheran Church.
