Jeanne T.
Young, age 85, of 2421 Crystal Ave., Quincy, died Wednesday,
June 20, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at Good Samaritan Home.
She was born February 3, 1922 in Watauga County, North
Carolina, the daughter of Fayette Townsend and Lennis
Hogshead Townsend.
On September 26,1943, she married Walter Morris Young in
Valle Crucis, N.C.. He survives.
She was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist
Church since 1953. Mrs. Young graduated from Lees-McCrea
Junior College in Banner Elk, N.C. in 1941. She then
enrolled in Bowling Green Business University in Bowling
Green, KY where she met her soon to be lifetime partner,
Morris. After finishing the years training in Bowling Green,
she left for Washington, D.C. where she got work in the
legal department of Maritime Service as secretary to 3
lawyers. After she worked in this office for approximately
one year, they switched the lead lawyer and brought in U.S.
Congressman T. Hale Boggs from New Orleans. Mrs. Young
retired in 1985 from the State of Illinois Unemployment
Division after 17 years of service.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons:
Walter M. Young, Jr. and his wife, Grace, of Danville, CA;
and Kenneth W. Young and his wife, Debra, of Las Vegas, NV;
a daughter, Carol Yvonne Cooley and her husband, Kevin, of
Longwood, FL; a brother, Gilbert Townsend of Hudson, N.C.;
two sisters: Caroline Andrews of Fort Pierce, FL; and
Margaret Patterson of Monroe, N.C.; six grandchildren:
Timothy Young of Danville, CA; Stephanie Young of San
Francisco, CA; Christy Anderson Tucker of Pelham, AL;
Christopher Wood of Longwood, FL; Jason Young of Danville,
CA; and Stephen Young of Las Vegas, NV; and a
great-grandson, Tyler Tucker of Pelham, AL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three
brothers Harold, Thomas, and Kenneth Townsend.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at
10:00 a.m. at Vermont Street United Methodist Church with
the Rev. Lou Zuck officiating. Visitation will be on
Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in
Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials made in Jeanne's name to the
Alzheimer's Association or Vermont Street United Methodist
Church would be appreciated.
