Ernest W. Dawson

Ernest W. Dawson, age 75, of 6826 Broadway, Quincy went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 5:17 am in Blessing Hospital.

He was born June 6, 1931 in Croton, Iowa the son of James Jasper and Blanche Davis Dawson. On September 27, 1980 he married Yvonne Jones Gordon in the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church by Rev. E. J. Otto in Quincy, Illinois.

Mr. Dawson worked at the Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, Ia. and at Shelor-Globe in Keokuk, Ia. He moved to Quincy in 1960 and worked at Quincy Soybean Co. for 32 years and retired from there after 32 years of service.

He attended The Crossing. He was a member of Keokuk Lodge of Masons, the Quincy Social Center, the Men's Progressive Club, the 25 year Club of Quincy Soybean Company, and the Citizens Action Group of Quincy. Ernie enjoyed the great out doors very much. He was a great horseman and loved his horses and enjoyed his work at the D& D Corral Bar.

 

Survivors include his wife and love, Yvonne; 4 daughters, Clementine L. Dawson Perkins and Carol A. Dawson Turner both of Gary, Indiana; Bonnie Dawson Bell and her husband Guy, Sr. of Ft. Madison, IA, and Penny Lee Dawson Porter and her husband Tyrone of Springfield, IL; a son, Ernest W. Dawson, Jr. and his wife Tawny of Portland, OR; 3 step-daughters, Sharon Morgan of Quincy, Dennise Gordon Pearson and her husband Dr. Darryl H. of Charlotte, NC, Therese Gordon Sanders and her husband Michael of Cincinnati, OH; 23 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, several great, great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Alberta Robinson and Frances Galbreath, both of Keokuk, IA, and Marline Malcom of Ft. Madison, IA; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Margaret; 6 brothers and 2 sisters.

Services will be Friday, January 12, 2007 at 11 am at The Crossing Church (48th and Maine) with Rev. Jerry Harris officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, January 11 from 4-7 pm at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials made to The Crossing or Blessing Hospital Cancer Center in his name would be appreciated.
