Henry J. Boss, age 81, of the Illinois Veterans' Home, made his transition on January 9, 2007 at 5:32 p.m. at Blessing Hospital.He was born January 13, 1925 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Henry R. and Effie Wear Boss. On March 22, 1947 he married Harriett J. Knight in Vermont Street United Methodist Chruch in Quincy. She preceded him in death on June 14, 1999.He graduated from Quincy High School and served in the U.S. Air force during WWII. He was an airplane mechanic and a tech sargeant. He received an honorable discharge from that branch of the service. After, Mr. Boss worked with his father as a general contractor, building several homes in Quincy and surrounding areas. He retired from Gardner-Denver in 1986 after completeing 32 years of service. He was a life time member and union representative of Machinist Local 822.Survivors include two daughters: Jackie Norris and her husband, John, of Quincy; and Bobbette Saxbery and her husband, Keith, of Quincy; a son Jeff Boss and his wife, Suzy, of St. Charles, IL; five grandchildren: Tara Roe and her husband, Blaine, of Liberty; Travis Turner, an intelligence officer currently serving in Iraq with the United States Army; Kailee and Kasey Saxbery of Quincy; and Zachrey Boss of St. Charles, IL; two great-grandchildren: Tayton and Taryn Roe of Liberty; a sister Rayloa Osmeyer and her husband, Charlie, of Quincy. In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diana Ray, and his parents.Visitation will be Friday, January 12, 2007 from 4-7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held at Quincy Memorial Park with the Rev. Ron Fritts officiating. Memorials made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in his name would be appreciated. |
