Thelma B. Blake

Thelma Bashabeeverdeen Blake, of North Adams Home, formerly of 2116 Ennis Lane, Quincy, died on Friday, January 26, 2007 at 7:03 pm in North Adams Home.

She was born May 8, 1916 in Monticello, Missouri the daughter of Theodore and Carrie Mae Gilbert Stice. On May 28, 1932 she married Adrain Richard Blake in Edina, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1983.

She attended Lewistown High School in Missouri. She worked for Uptown Cleaners and International Shoe Company. She also worked in the laundry department in the Illinois Veterans Home from where she retired. Thelma was a former member of the Navy Club USA Auxiliary. She was Past Commander of Illinois Squadron Auxiliary Quincy Ship 2, Past Illinois Squadron Commander Ship 2, and Past National Commandant Navy Club USA Ship 2. She was also a former member of Fraternal Order of Eagle Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW.

Survivors include two daughters, Lois Jeanette Holbert, Quincy, IL and Dorothy Ann Cates, Penrose, CO; a daughter-in-law, Mary Joan Blake, Sequin, TX; two sisters, Lydia Allison, Quincy and Doris Allison, Lewistown, MO; one sister-in-law, Helen Stice, Palmyra, MO; two brothers-in-law, William Brightwell, LaBelle, MO and Vernon Rayl, Palmyra, MO; five grandchildren, Marcia Cates, Penrose, CO, Timothy Cates, Quincy, IL, Mark Blake and his wife, Cheryl, San Marcos, TX, Brad Blake and his wife, Arlene, San Marcos, TX, and John Holbert and his wife, Amy, Andalusia, IL; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua and Nicole Blake, both of San Marcos, TX, Matthew Cates, Ft. Wayne, IN, Nicholas, Ethan and Delaney Holbert, all of Andalusia, IL; Brianna Blake of San Marcos, TX, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Paul Blake; an infant son, Richard Donald Blake; a grandson, Michael Eugene Blake; two sons-in-law, John E. Holbert and M. Dale Cates; four sisters, Wilma Blake, Mary Edwards, Norma Brightwell, and Gilberta Rayl; six brothers, Joseph, Gilbert, Chester, Cecil, Richard, and Willard Stice; four brothers-in-law, Justin Blake, Harlan Edwards, and William and Melvin Allison; four sisters-in-law: Ruby, Sheena, Margaret and Darlene Stice.

Services will held Monday at 11:00 am in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Linda Hunsaker officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Memorials made to North Adams Home Activities Fund in her name would be appreciated.
