Norman W. 'Shorty' Still, Sr.

Norman W. "Shorty" Still, Sr., age 82, formerly of 1917 Park View Dr., died Thursday, February 8, 2007 at 8:15 a.m. in Illinois Veterans Home.

He was born on December 12, 1924 in Morrisville, Illinois, the son of John Harvey and Sadie Lanum Still. On July 14, 1946 he married Dorothy Jean Taylor in Liberty Zion Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2005.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May of 1943 and served during WWII. Immediately following his military service he worked for Central Fibre paper mill of Quincy. He then farmed in the Mt. Sterling and Liberty area. During his farming years he also worked for Linnemeyer Hardware in Liberty. He was later employed by Shank Plumbing and Heating of Clayton and E. Best Plumbing and Heating Supply of Quincy. He retired after 24 years with the Quincy Board of Education. After retirement he enjoyed yardwork, especially when his dear wife, Dorothy, was ill.

Survivors include, a son, Norman Still, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, of Pittsfield; a daughter, Rebecca Stevenson and her husband, Rick, of Ft. Worth, TX; five grandchildren, David Still and his wife, Laura, of Ballwin, MO; Mark Still and his wife, Missy, of Milton; Stacy Duke and her husband, Jason, of Pittsfield; Brandy Karamol and her husband, Chris, of Ft. Worth, TX; and Dustin Stevenson of Ft. Worth, TX; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents. He was the last of 14 brothers and sisters.

Services will be Monday, February 12, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Memorials made to the Illinois Veterans' Home Activity Fund in his name would be appreciated.
