John P. Bliven, age 79, of 2405 Crystal Avenue died Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 12:05 pm in Blessing Hospital.He was born February 24, 1927 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Fred and Isabelle Beals Bliven. On November 4, 1950 he married Wilma "Billie" Pearce in Quincy.He was a 1947 Graduate of QHS and graduated from St. Mary School of Nursing in 1950. He then graduated in 1953 from St. Francis School of Anesthesia in Peoria. He was an anesthetist at St. Mary Hospital and then at Blessing Hospital after Blessing purchased St. Mary in 1989. He retired in 1996 after 42 years. John was a member of the Church of St. Peter, and the Elks. He loved the outdoors and taking care of wildlife.Survivors include his wife, 3 children, Barbara Lovelace, Carol "Susie" Calkins and husband Bill, and John Thomas Bliven and wife Jodi, all of Quincy; a sister, Roberta Steinway and husband Emmett of Quincy, 5 grandchildren, Bill Hobbs, Toni Dodson, Megan Lovelace, Kylie Bliven, and Joshua John Bliven, all of Quincy; and a great grandson, Devin Gallaher of Quincy. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Kenneth Bliven.Services will begin with prayers at 9:30 a.m. Monday February 26, 2007 in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter with the Rev. Duane LeClercq officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Memorials made to QND and John Wood Community College Nursing Program in his name would be appreciated. |
