Margaret Ann Cassidy-Ayers, age 64, of 611 Cherry transitioned to eternal reward Sunday, February 18, 2007 at 1:20 pm. in Blessing Hospital.She was born December 8, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri the daughter of Titus and Alice Dixon Cassidy. She married David Ayers in 1959 and to that union were born 6 children, five of whom survive: Tracy Ayers of Fayetteville, NC, Mark Ayers and wife Natasha of Centreville, VA, Todd Ayers and wife Jose of Heilbronn, Germany, Deborah Ayers of Charlotte, NC, and Anjenette Ayers of Texas City, TX. She is also survived by her mother, Alice Watson and husband James of Hannibal, MO; her father, Titus Cassidy and wife Bernice of Palmyra, MO; 13 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; 3 sisters, Paula Abbey and husband Marty of Bollingbrook, IL, Martha Taylor and husband Donald of Zion, IL, and Connie James of Oklahoma City, OK; 3 brothers, Floyd Jackson and wife Joan of Park City, IL, Mike Cassidy and Monte Cassidy of Palmyra, MO; and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter Alice Ayers and her grandparents.Margaret attended Douglas School in Hannibal. She worked at Motorola and Colt Industries. She then received her Associates Degree from John Wood Community College. Margaret was a librarian for the Quincy Public Schools for 12 years, retiring in December of 2006.She was a member of the Cathedral of Worship where she was the Senior Elder and a member of the Board of Trustees. She was an international missionary who traveled to Kenya in East Africa three times and also preached in Germany. She was a volunteer chaplain at Blessing Hospital where she had been named "Chaplain of the Month" and was recently named, " Chaplain Emeritus". She was an active prison minister, was an after school tutor at Harrison Hills, and was a member of NAACP.A Celebration of Margaret's life will be Friday, February 23, 2007 at 11 am in the Cathedral of Worship with Bishop E. L. Warren officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 6- 8pm at the cathedral. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials made to American Cancer Society or "Hope for Kiatle" African Orphanage in her name would be appreciated. |
