He was born May 6, 1948 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Marvin and Ida Gerdes Utterback.

He was a graduate of Quincy High School and was employed by Electric Wheel for 13 years. He then worked for the Salvation Army until 1994 and remained active in the Salvation Army as a volunteer. He attended the Citizen Police Academy.

Survivors include his mother, of Quincy; a nephew, Michael Utterback and his wife Jennifer of Kansas City, MO, 3 great nephews and 1 great niece. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Danny.

Services will be Monday, December 18, 2007 at 2pm in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Major Alan Wurtz officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 1-2 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials made to the family in his name would be appreciated.
