He was born October 20, 1924 in Beverly, Illinois the son of Orville and Dollie Drummond Rigg. On October 20, 1956 he married Juanita Richmond in Pittsfield, Illinois, she survives.

He was a graduate of Barry High School. He was of the Christian Faith having been baptized in the 1st Christian Church by Rev. Sutton. Veldie was a veteran of WWII serving in Okinawa, Korea and the Pacific Theatre of Operations as a Field Lineman. He had been employed by Packaging Corporation of America for 26 years and then worked for the Quincy School District, retiring after 8 years. His hobby was woodworking and he enjoyed yard work.

Survivors also include, nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, 4 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Vaden Rigg; 2 sisters Nina Thaxton and LaVerne Jackson; a nephew and a great nephew

Graveside services will be Thursday, January 3, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. in Greenmount Cemetery with Chaplin Steve Disseler officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials in his name be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home Activities Fund or a charity of the donor's choice. Hansen-Spear Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
