Betty L. Murphy , age 81 of St. Vincents Home, formerly
of 2515 Dennis Dr. went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December
29 at 11:00 am in Blessing Hospital.
She was born September 25, 1926 in Macomb, Illinois the daughter of
Claude Robinson and Edna Marie Hedrick Robinson Wiemer. Betty was born
in the family home at 1008 W. Piper St. After leaving Macomb, the family
moved to a farm near Bowen, Illinois, where Betty attended Rose Hill
School and Bowen high school. Betty married Hubert Joseph "Murph" Murphy
(1910 - 1976) on May 31, 1949 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois by the Rev. Duff
Tucker.
Betty worked at International Shoe Factory and Lillian Pipe Sitting
Service until her retirement in 1970. Betty enjoyed the outdoors,
nature, cooking big meals for her family, all animals, mushroom hunting,
fishing, reading and all things Betty Boop. She loved spending time with
her family. Her humor, affection, strength and love was felt by everyone
who knew her.
Betty is surv ived
by three daughters, Cathy Ann Gallaher and her husband Larry, Donna Jo
Tutt and her husband Scotty, and Sheila Kay Murphy, all of Quincy; two
granddaughters, Dawn Marie Tutt and her significant other Jeffrey
"George" Wichael, and Kelly Garnett and her husband Kevin; and one
grandson Joseph Troy Wuestenfeld, all of Quincy. Betty also had five
great-grandchildren that meant the world to her, Alexzander Scott Tutt,
AveriAnna Jo Tutt, Nathan Dean Garnett, Austin David Garnett and Haley
Ann Garnett, all of Quincy; several nieces and nephews and many good
friends. The family wishes to give special thanks to Betty's good friend
Violet "Dickie" Yeakey who's help and compassion during her illness is
very much appreciated and will never be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters,
Georgia Altheide and Iris Skiles; two brothers, Ivan and Dale Robinson;
and a grandson, Scott Joseph Tutt.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 3, at 10:00 am at the
Funeral Home with Chaplain Steve Disseler officiating. Visitation will
be Wednesday, January 2, from 4 - 7 pm at Hansen Spear Funeral Home in
Quincy. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials made to support
the efforts and research of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Betty's
name on behalf of her daughter Sheila would be greatly appreciated.
