Ralph Milton Lewis, age 82, of 1532 Sycamore, went home
to be with the Lord on Christmas Day at 6:16 pm in Blessing Hospital.
He was born November 20, 1925 in LaGrange, Missouri the son of Linvel
and Emily Calsaw Lewis. On January 10, 1959 he married Beverly Brunier
in Quincy. She survives.
He was in the Army during WWII and served in Normandy and Northern
France where he received two Bronze Stars. Mr. Lewis worked for
Coca-Cola Bottling Plant for 15 years, and then spent 23 years at Quincy
Senior High, where he was head custodian until his retirement in 1993.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and he was a
Eucharistic Minister at St. John Catholic Church. Mr. Lewis was the
Commander of the V.F.W. Post #618 in 1968 and 1973. He was also a member
of the Men's Sportsman Club and a former Mason.
Milt was loved by his grandchildren. He was Santa Claus and the
Easter Bunny, and they thought that he could fix anything. Milt also
loved decorating his house for all seasons and holidays.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: five children: Ralph M.
Lewis, Jr. and his wife, Clester, of Farmington, MI; Jeff Lewis of
Quincy; Derrick Lewis of Aurora, IL; Jacalyn Bowen and her husband,
Henry, of Quincy; and Peggy Bowen and her husband, Carl, of Chicago, IL;
ten grandchildren: Sylvia Tillman of Farmington, MI; Roger Lewis, FL;
Paige Cartmill of St. Louis, MO; Shanti, Jordan and Carson Bowen, all of
Quincy; Blake Bowen of Chicago, IL, Carl Bowen, Jr. of Chicago, IL;
Quenten Lewis of Aurora, IL; and Corbin Bowen of Chicago, IL; seven
great-grandchildren; two brothers: Charles Lewis and his friend, Joyce,
of Quincy; and Wayne Lewis and his wife, Carol, of LaGrange, MO; two
sisters; Cleo Robinson and June Scott, both of Quincy; a sister-in-law,
Jackie Harper and her husband, George, of Quincy; two brothers-in-law:
John Brunier and his wife, Liz, of Minneapolis, MN; and Harold Perkins
of Quincy; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; a sister,
Freda Lewis; a brother, Richard Lewis and his wife, Mary; and a sister,
Lottie Humphrey and her husband, Claude.
Services will be Saturday, December 29, 2007, at 9:30 a.m. at
Hansen-Spear Funeral Home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass celebrated by
Monsignor Michael Kuse in Blessed Sacrament Church. Visitation will be
Friday, December 28 from 4-7 p.m. with a Liturgical Wake Service at 3:45
p.m. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials made to Blessing
Cancer Center in his name would be appreciated. Hansen-Spear Funeral
Directors are in charge of arrangements.
