Marian W. Groves Hunter, age 92, of 95 Woodlawn Road,
died Sunday, December 30, 2007 at 10:23 p.m. in Good Samaritan Home.
She was born January 17, 1915 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of
Charles Henry and Lillian Mohrman Wagner. On May 23, 1936, she married
J. Gerald "Jerry" Groves in Champaign, Illinois. He preceded her in
death October 11, 1982. On April 15, 1995 she married James G. Hunter in
Quincy, IL., He preceded her in death on April 4, 2003.
Mrs. Hunter was a longtime member of First Union Congregational
Church in Quincy. While in good health, she was an ardent golfer and
enjoyed her friends every week at the "Friday Lunch Bunch". Mrs. Hunter
was an avid fan of Quincy High School Blue Devil athletics and found her
greatest pleasure late in life with her grandchildren.
She was a 1932 graduate of Quincy High School and graduated from
Liberty School of Beauty Culture in Peoria, Illinois. She was a
self-employed beautician for more than 40 years.
Survivors include a son, John B. Groves and his wife Linda of Quincy,
a grandson, John Robert "J.R." Groves, a granddaughter, Alison L.
Groves, both of Quincy, 3 stepsons James G. (Jim) Hunter, Jr. and his
wife Laureen of West Palm Beach, Florida, William R. (Bill) Hunter and
his wife Janet of Richardson, Texas, Christopher B. (Chris) Hunter and
his wife Michelle of Kirkwood, Missouri, and a special niece Suzanne "Suzi"
Christiaansen of Waukesha, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her
parents, both husbands, a son, Robert John (Rob) Groves of Quincy, who
died April 22, 2001 and a sister, Marjorie Carolyn Grant of Oak Brook,
Illinois.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in
Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Reverend Larry Wentzel officiating.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the
First Union Congregational Church or Community Foundation of the Quincy
Area.
