Stillman Kendrick Taylor , age 92, formerly of 325 S. 12th, Quincy,
died Saturday, April 21, at 7:12 a.m. in Blessing Hospital.

He was born June 13, 1914 in Houston, Texas the son of Charles Herbert and Charlotte
Amelia Kendrick Taylor. On September 8, 1942 he married Genevieve Maddex in Alexandria,
Virginia. She preceded him in death on September 13, 1994.
In 1955 he received his Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of
Chicago. He directed the Fairbanks Memorial Library System in Terre Haute, Indiana from
1952 - 1967. In 1967 the Taylors relocated to Quincy where Stillman served as Director of
the Great River Library System until his retirement in 1980. After his retirement he
worked part-time in the library at the Illinois Veterans Home. He was an avid bridge
player and enjoyed teaching others to play the game. Stillman supported the Arts and loved
classical music and greatly enjoyed going to the symphony as well as the Community
Theatre. He loved to play the organ and always had a book in his hand. Education was very
important to him, and he continued his education by taking various courses for his own
personal growth. Stillman was a member of the Quincy Unitarian Universalist Church. He was
a former member of Kiwanis, Elks, and Rotary Clubs. He was also well known for his great
sense of humor.
Survivors include: a daughter, Connie Taylor and her husband Bob Sadacca of Quincy; a
daughter-in-law, Patricia Taylor of Alexandria, Virginia; a grandson, Stillman Kendrick
Taylor, III of Alexandria, Virginia; two granddaughters, Amanda Sadacca of Boston,
Massachusetts, and Catherine Taylor Collier and her husband Alex of Sterling, Virginia;
two step-granddaughters, Amy and Beth Sadacca; a great-granddaughter, Lilly Catherine
Collier; step-greatgranddaughter, Evie Sadacca; and a nephew, Laurie Beal and his wife
Dorothy of St. Louis, Missouri. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his
son Stillman Kendrick "Tim" Taylor, Jr.; a brother Kenny Taylor; and two sisters
Eleanor Kendrick Taylor and Gladys Eleanor Taylor.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials made in
Stillman's name to the Quincy Public Library would be greatly appreciated.
